Shraddha Kapoor talks about her evolution as an actor and shares her favourite DIY skincare tips

I remember watching Aashiqui 2 (back in 2013) and saying to myself that Shraddha Kapoor, the actress in the film, will only get better with time. It wasn’t a bad performance, mind you, but one that told me that she could do so much more. Fast forward 10 years, and Kapoor has proved me right with a host of impressive performances that include ABCD 2, Baaghi, Half Girlfriend, and Stree. Back after a three-year gap (last seen in Baaghi 3), Kapoor is all set to shine alongside Ranbir Kapoor in Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar this March. We have missed her on screen for sure.

The actor, in an exclusive interview with Cosmopolitan India divulges her skincare secrets and opens up about her fascination for singing and acting, and choosing the right projects.

Cosmopolitan India: What’s your skin and beauty regime like?

Shraddha Kapoor: I try to stick to what I know works best for me and avoid using too many products at a time. Icing my face is a staple in my routine, along with a moisturising face wash and a gentle toner. A product that I’ve recently been using is the Super Serum BB Cream by MyGlamm–it combines skincare with make-up and is enriched with hyaluronic acid, which helps retain my skin’s moisture and makes it feel hydrated and supple.

Cosmopolitan India: What are some of the home remedies that you swear by?

Shraddha Kapoor: Homemade face masks, for sure! One simple recipe which I swear by is combining besan (gram flour) with an oil of your choice—rosehip, coconut—anything works. It’s quick, easy, and very effective.

Cosmopolitan India: What’s your secret to healthy and beautiful skin?

Shraddha Kapoor: I ensure I drink a lot of water throughout the day—it’s super important! I’ve also picked up a few tips while on set from my make-up artists, one is to remove your make-up and let your skin breathe as often as possible. I also make sure to eat right; after all, what you ingest definitely shows on your skin.

Cosmopolitan India: Could you tell us about this association and how delighted are you to be a part of it?

Shraddha Kapoor: I deeply resonate with MyGlamm’s beauty philosophy—their clean beauty formulations and cruelty-free promise speak dearly to me. So when MyGlamm approached me to be the face of the brand, I decided to join hands with the brand as an investor, too. I think the DTC beauty market is the future, and I’m delighted to have the opportunity to be a part of it through my association with MyGlamm. I hope to understand and fulfil the beauty needs of my fans and followers through this.

Cosmopolitan India: Having been introduced to the film fraternity at a very young age, what was one of the first things you learnt about the industry when you decided you were going to enter this world?

Shraddha Kapoor: Growing up, I would be fascinated when I would see my dad at his shoots. I loved how one person could play multiple characters. I realised at a young age that acting was what I truly wanted to do. He really stressed the importance of putting in the hard work and not taking anything for granted when I first ventured into the industry.

Cosmopolitan India: You’ve forayed into singing and shown that it’s something that’s very much in your genes. What has been the best piece of advice that you’ve received from your mother?

Shraddha Kapoor: I come from a musical family. I also trained a little with my grandfather, Pandit Pandharinath Kolhapure, as a child. My mom is definitely my best friend–she’s my true confidante! She’s a brilliant singer herself and has always been there for me. She gives me honest feedback and has helped me get better as a singer.

Cosmopolitan India: What’s the best part about being in a house where (the) majority of the conversations are about art, music and films?

Shraddha Kapoor: I think you definitely learn the importance of being open-minded and curious about everything. Growing up in a family of artists, there’s so much to learn and grow from. There is no dearth of art to take inspiration from. There’s always a super fun conversation going on since art is a common topic of interest!

Cosmopolitan India: The first thing about your Instagram posts that one realises is how trendy, yet relatable they are. Has keeping things real always been the way to go for you?

Shraddha Kapoor: Definitely, I believe in presenting myself as I am. Authenticity and minimalism are something that I hold dear, and I think it really speaks to people.

Cosmopolitan India: You’ve done comedy, as well as romance, your next is a rom-com, and you’ve done horror as well, is there any genre that you’ve wanted to explore?

Shraddha Kapoor: As an actor, I love that my profession allows me to explore different characters and genres. Rather than focusing on a particular genre to pick next, I consciously try to look at different kinds of projects–each introduces me to a new world, presents a fresh set of challenges and gives me new things to learn.

Cosmopolitan India: How do you choose projects more carefully now?

Shraddha Kapoor: One of the things I try to keep in mind when choosing a project is whether I myself would like to watch it in the theatre. I make sure that whenever I select a movie, I question myself whether I can do justice to the character and the director's or writer’s vision, so there is a lot of thought that goes into it.
