Cosmo X TRESemmé: 5 Iconic Women and Their Inspiring Words

The world is nothing short of beautiful when women come in support of fellow women. From Three Billboards Outside Ebbing Missouri to Big Little Lies making people swoon over girl power, the industry has proved that this really is ‘year of the women’.

From nominations being fair to gender, races and colour, the current times have contributed majorly in helping women believe and embrace their talents.

Looking at Viola Davis, making history by becoming the first black actor to have the "Triple Crown of Acting" and Wonder Woman, smashing box office records, this year seems to be making the cut for a fairer place to work and function in.

Cosmo, in association with TRESemmé, salutes the courage and fire of all such fierce ladies who’ve come forward to influence change like never before. By calling out their predators to taking their story to a global platform, here’s to the women who’ve spoken and inspired millions to ensure we’re in this together.

1. Oprah Winfrey, Golden Globe Awards 2018

Oprah Winfrey

"To tyrants and victims and secrets and lies. I want to say that I value the press more than ever before, as we try to navigate these complicated times. Which brings me to this: What I know for sure is that speaking your truth is the most powerful tool we all have. And I’m especially proud and inspired by all the women who have felt strong enough and empowered enough to speak up and share their personal stories. Each of us in this room are celebrated because of the stories that we tell. And this year we became the story. But it’s not just a story affecting the entertainment industry. It’s one that transcends any culture, geography, race, religion, politics or workplace…And for too long, women have not been heard or believed if they dared to speak their truth to the power of those men. But their time is up. Their time is up. Their time is up."

2. Nicole Kidman, Golden Globe Awards 2018

Nicole Kidman

"…we sat at a table, pledged allegiance to each other and commitment to each other and this is ours to share. Wow. The power of women…This character that I played represents something that is the centre of our conversation right now: abuse. I do believe, and I hope, we can elicit change through the stories we tell and the way we tell them. Let's keep the conversation alive."

3. Meryl Streep, Golden Globe Awards 2018

Meryl Streep

"...this instinct to humiliate, when it’s modeled by someone in the public platform, by someone powerful, it filters down into everybody’s life, because it kind of gives permission for other people to do the same thing. Disrespect invites disrespect. Violence incites violence. When the powerful use their position to bully others, we all lose."

4. Kristen Bell, SAG Awards 2018

Kristen Bell

"Everyone's story deserves to be told, especially now. We are having a watershed moment and as we march forward with active momentum and open ears, let's make sure that we're leading the charge with empathy and with diligence because fear and anger never win the race."

5. Frances McDormand, Oscars 2018

Frances McDormand

"Don't talk to us about it at the parties tonight. Invite us into your office in a couple days, or you can come to ours, whatever suits you best, and we'll tell you all about them. I have two words to leave with you tonight, ladies and gentlemen: 'inclusion rider'."
