As if to carry on the trend of celebrity weddings, Neha Dhupia and Angad Bedi had broken the news of their wedding on social media on May 10th this year, soon after Sonam Kapoor and Anand Ahuja were officially married. It was a big surprise to everyone, and nobody in the industry or the media had even an inkling of it.

 The couple had to rubbish reports of a pregnancy which was being touted by Internet trolls as the reason they got hitched. In fact, even the fact that Neha was two years older than Angad was also met with some backlash by the netizens, but they both ensured that they shut those trolls down. 

Negativity aside, Neha Dhupia and Angad Bedi keep posting about their friendship-turned-into-marriage on their social media, and it does look like a perfect happy ending beginning just waiting to happen.

In an interview with Filmfare recently, Neha Dhupia revealed the real reason behind opting for a low-key and a 'surprise' wedding.

"When I checked my phone after putting up the Instagram post announcing my marriage, I had around 600 messages that read, “What the f**k!" instead of “Congratulations”. Yes, it was a surprise to a lot of people. But Angad  was clear from the beginning. He said, 'You’re not someone with whom I want to be in a boyfriend-girlfriend relationship. So, either we turn this into marriage or we continue being just friends.' I don’t believe it was hush-hush or secret as much as it was private. Both of us are private people. I hope we can maintain that. It’s going to be hard. But I’m going to try and protect my personal life as much as I can. By that I don’t mean dissing completely what’s in the public eye. We just wish to control the amount of information we want to let out about our private lives." 

A fair point. Today, thanks to social media there is little privacy left in our lives, and it's worse for celebs.

In a chat show Open House with Renil on Zoom, Neha shared the story of how Angad popped the question, and you wouldn't have expected it to that old-school. *heart-eyed*

"Angad proposed to me in the nicest way possible wherein he went straight to my parents and then my mom called me saying that he is the nicest guy for you. But back then, I thought it wasn't the right time and said no to his proposal. But on May 3rd this year, he asked me to come with him to Delhi. He dropped a hint that we need to settle down and proposed marriage in front of my parents which came as a surprise to both my parents and me"

 

Well as they say, keep trying till you get what you're aiming for. Angad Bedi, we weren't expecting you to be this romantic!
