15 Times Amy Schumer Made You Obsessed With Her in 2015

It was the year she became a bona fide superstar.

15 Times Amy Schumer Made You Obsessed With Her in 2015

1. When she premiered the third season of Inside Amy Schumer with a Friday Night Lights-inspired "Football Town Nights" sketch.  It skewered rape culture and featured Amy as Tami Taylor. Can't lose.

The Inside Amy Schumer writing team also gifted audiences with a sketch called "Last Fuckable Day," in which Tina Fey, Patricia Arquette, and Julia Louis-Dreyfus take on Hollywood sexism. (The group meets for a picnic to celebrate JLD's final afternoon as a "fuckable" actress.)

2. When she defended your right to shamelessly masturbate.

There were so many funny moments from her gig as host of the MTV Movie Awards, but the sketch "Trenchcoats," which also featured Amber Rose, was her finest. The gist: A bunch of friends run into each other at the cinema, where they're seeing either Magic Mike XXL or Fifty Shades of Grey — and it turns out they are all planning to masturbate.

On the subject of Schumer-Rose collaborations, don't forget "Milk Milk Lemonade"

3. When she dove in front of Kimye on the red carpet.

Sometimes a glamorous night needs a dramatic fall. The photos from the 2015 Time 100 Gala really make it seem like Kim and Kanye did nothing to help Amy, but the video shows that Kim got the joke. Amy later told People, "I asked my publicist, 'Can I dive in front of them and act like I fell?' And she said, 'I can't stop you.' " True story.

4. When she spoofed One Direction.

After the amazing first episode of Inside Amy Schumer, episode two featured the spot-on One Direction parody "Girl You Don't Need Makeup," with great lines like, "It's like I tore up a shag carpet assuming there were hardwood floors underneath, but it turned out to be just dirty linoleum / These are just metaphors, girl, but they are about your face." The song would go on to spur a #GirlYouDontNeedMakeup hashtag moment and, oh, it won an Emmy!

5. When she kissed Tina Fey. How do you follow up winning a Peabody? You kiss Tina Fey on the mouth, of course!

6. When she owned the late-night circuit by showing her "vagina," etc.Whenever Amy is on a talk show, it's a huge treat — she basically just tries to fluster the host. She stunned David Letterman by showing her "vagina" at the end of this clip:

Then she made Jimmy Fallon blush when she told him a great story about texting Katie Couric's husband.

And finally, she told Stephen Colbert about eating Jake Gyllenhaal's freezer-cake when she sublet his place.

6. When she appeared on The Bachelorette.

She stopped by Kaitlyn Bristow's season to essentially tell all the men they were garbage — and to show them how much funnier she is than all of them combined. Never forget when JJ made terrible jokes and expected a positive response — you know, like all boys do — only for her to completely destroy him.

7. When she reminded everyone that she can "catch a dick" whenever she wants."I'm probably, like, 160 pounds right now and I can catch a dick whenever I want," she said in her Glamour UK Women of the Year Awards speech. Enough said.

8. When she posed as Princess Leia with C-3PO. This year Amy covered GQ, Entertainment Weekly, Elle, and more. Among the bunch, the most-talked about one was obviously her Princess Leia look for GQ with C-3PO's finger in her mouth. The cover enraged over-serious Star Wars fans (as well as Disney — the studio didn't approve the cover), which made it 10 million times better. Maybe none of them saw this sketch

9. When Trainwreck was a huge success. Although it couldn't beat Ant-Man, Trainwreck scored big at the box office with a $30.2 million opening weekend. In addition to Amy's stellar performance in the movie (which she wrote), we got to see John Cena and Lebron James reveal their comedic chops, and we finally got to see Bill Hader as a romantic lead. The always-fantastic Tilda Swinton was almost unrecognisable!

The movie cemented Amy as a bankable leading lady and that means that from now on she is going to make so much money (so she doesn't have to live in a walk-up any more, the real fantasy for all New Yorkers). The Hollywood Reporter writes that although she got paid $300,000 for Trainwreck, she'll get between $3–5 million for her upcoming mother-daughter comedy.

10. When she teamed up with Senator Chuck Schumer to advocate against gun violence.

After the tragic cinema shooting at a screening of Trainwreck in Louisiana, Amy vowed to do what she could to stop gun violence in America. In August, Amy and Senator Chuck Schumer (her cousin) stood in front of a poster that read "Enough is Enough" and called for stricter background checks and more funding to help people with mental health issues. In October, Amy again spoke passionately about the need for those in the US to write to their congressman and demand change.

11. When she became fast friends with Jennifer Lawrence. When she posted a picture jet skiing with J.Law, fans everywhere collectively lost their shit! They're friends now! Then they made human pyramids, celebrated an Emmy win with a room full of balloons, hung out with Aziz Ansari and Chris Pratt, danced on a piano at a Billy Joel concert, oh, and most importantly, they're writing a movie together.

12. When she won an Emmy for Outstanding Variety Sketch Series.

[youtube ]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ouV-kdNXk2o" frameborder="0" allow="autoplay; encrypted-media" allowfullscreen="">

"We care so much about this show," she said in her mostly sincere acceptance speech. The speech made it clear that despite all the success of the year, she's still just so happy and proud to be writing a show she loves with wonderful people. Plus, she thanked her makeup artist for her smokey eye, and if you're a makeup artist for an award show — or anyone who has ever attempted a smokey eye, really — you definitely deserve a million thanks.

13. When she signed a massive, multimillion-dollar book deal. Amy was reportedly paid $8 million for her book, significantly more than the $1 million she got (and returned) for a book deal that fell through in 2013. What a difference two years makes! The New York Times wrote a great article about how the payday came about. Many have pointed out that the way we talk about male book deals versus female book deals can be kind of sexist — like, why are we so surprised that women get huge deals? But the NYT piece is a powerful one about negotiating for a raise based on your worth. It's totally worth reading.

14. When she hosted Saturday Night Live.

A lot of great male comedians have owned their SNL monologues by doing their stand-up routine, so it was refreshing to see a female comedian do the same and completely slay. Amy's gig was also notable for again bringing home her activism when it comes to gun control.

15. When she released her HBO special.

Throughout this whole year, as her show clips racked up millions of YouTube views, as she saw herself become a hugely bankable movie star, Amy still found time to do stand-up: The Trainwreck Comedy Tour starred Mike Birbiglia, Dave Atell, Colin Quinn, and Vanessa Bayer, and helped drum up interest for the movie. She also co-headlined the Oddball Comedy Fest with Aziz Ansari, which featured comedians like Anthony Jeselnik, Nick Kroll, John Mulaney, and Nikki Glaser. And she released her HBO special, directed by Chris Rock.

All of Amy's specials have been fun, confident, and, super dirty, but this one also felt like a return to the thing that started and propelled her career. Plus, there's this great bit where she talks about dieting for Trainwreck, and since the movie did so well, it's a nice little final "fuck you" to Hollywood beauty standards.
