Steve Harvey Still Apologizing to Miss Colombia, This Time in Person

Like the poised pageant queen she is, she accepted the mea culpa while (probably) plotting some crystal-covered vengeance.

Steve Harvey Still Apologizing to Miss Colombia, This Time in Person

To the tune of the classic Bieber track — in this instance, I mean "Sorry" — Steve Harvey is hosting a special two-part episode of his eponymous talk show this week, sitting down for another postmortem with Miss Colombia and Miss Philippines (now Miss Universe). They'll be reminiscing over old times, by which I mean the pageant gaffe heard around the world when, you know, Harvey announced the wrong winner during last month's Miss Universe. "This has caused a lot of sleepless nights for me," Harvey explained during the show. "This finally gives me a chance to have a moment of closure."

"I'm beyond sorry for what happened that night," a teary-eyed Harvey told Miss Colombia, Ariadna Gutierrez, apparently during their first meeting in-person since the whole fiasco. "I cast you into a spotlight that I never intended, that I would not want to happen to anyone." After accepting the apology, and hugging it out, Gutierrez replied in remarkably good humor, arguing, "You have to learn how to read [cue] cards." (Harvey had said previously he mistook the "1ST RUNNER UP" part of his big winner announcement card to read, well, "1ST" outright, though he's expected to explain further in a TODAY show interview airing Wednesday.) Gutierrez added that she thought the whole de-crowning moment was a joke at first, which, woof, that's quite a punch line. Now though, she says, "I can say, 'OK, it was the worst night of my life, but it was the best one too.'"

Of allegations the big flub happened because Harvey was had missed rehearsals, as some reports have stated, Miss Universe Pia Wurtzbach spoke in his defense, via Us Weekly. "I can vouch for this," Wurtzbach said. "Steve was there throughout all the rehearsals ... he was there all throughout."
