Here are some things about the elusive Deepika Padukone that may take you by surprise...

# 1. Deepika was born in Copenhagen, Denmark on January 5, 1986, and later moved to Bengaluru with her family when she was 11 months old.

#2. Remember Himesh Reshammiya's song 'Naam Hai Tera'? (Us neither, but Google says it happened). Well, Farah Khan spotted Deepika in this song, and decided to cast her in Om Shanti Om. So, essentially, it was Himesh who gave her the first break in industry!

#3. Daughter of ace badminton player Prakash Padukone, Deepika played badminton on national level. However, not everyone is aware that she was also a state-level baseball player.

#4. Deepika was supposed to make her debut with Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Saawariya. But Bhansali decided to go with the 'star children' formula, and replaced her with Sonam Kapoor. Ultimately, Deepika's debut film released on the same day as Saawariya, and Om Shanti Om turned out to be WAY more successful.

#5. For the movie Chandni Chowk to China, Deepika mastered a Japanese martial art form—Jujutsu—-and performed all the stunts herself, without a body double.

#6. Deepika got about a zillion accolades for her performance in Ramleela, but the one she cherished the most was a bouquet and a hand-written note sent to her by Amitabh Bachchan as a token of his admiration.

#7. Deepika has rejected three films opposite Salman Khan in the past, Shuddhi, Sultan and an item number in Kick. Do we smell some issues?
