Hrithik Roshan Opens Up About Battling With Depression, and Has a Message for Everyone

Only a few Bollywood celebs, including Deepika Padukone and Karan Johar, have chosen to speak on their experience of fighting with depression and spread awareness about this mental health condition. The new addition to this list is Hrithik Roshan, who believes it should be treated as a "normal thing", and must not be stigmatised.

At a recent event in Mumbai, the actor confessed, "I have experienced depression, I have experienced confusion, as we all do. It's a normal thing. We all go through ups and downs. When you go through a down, then the most important thing is clarity of thought. Sometimes, your brain takes over, feeds you with unwanted thoughts."

Plus, he opined that one needs objectivity during such times, and a third person to guide you through it. "Millions don't know they might be suffering from something clinical which is not their fault. It is nothing one should feel awkward about. A knee, elbow, back or neck problems are something we are unapologetic to talk about. But when we are going to go through deep anxiety, depression, chaos, confusion or addictive behaviour and even though we know we are going through it, we don't allow ourselves to talk about the problems that deal with the brain. It is because we have been conditioned since birth that it is something to feel embarrassed about. And we need to stamp out that stigma. We need to set ourselves free. We need to educate people," Hrithik added.
