13 Times Celebs Defended Their Significant Partners

When you live your life in the public eye, criticism is all too common. Thankfully, these celebs have their S.O.s' backs.

Chrissy Teigen and John Legend

Chrissy Teigen is known for her Twitter clapbacks. When she sent a feisty tweet to Donald Trump during the inauguration, a twitter troll commented back that her husband, John Legend, was illiterate and had no talent. Teigen obviously responded, writing, "John went to the same University as the Donald, silly billy. Only difference was John went at the young age of 16."

Kim Kardashian and Kanye West

To say that Taylor Swift and Kanye West aren't fans of each other is putting it lightly. Their feud reached a new level last year when West released his song "Famous," in which he basically takes credit for Swift's success (and calls her a bitch in the process). Swift claimed she didn't know about the song prior to the release, but Kardashian said she absolutely did — and released a phone call between Swift and Kanye as proof. "I just felt like I wanted to defend him in it because it's like, she legitimately quote says, 'As soon as I get on that Grammy red carpet I'm gonna tell all the press. Like I was in on it,'" she revealed  on an episode of Keeping Up With The Kardashians.

Kristin Cavallari and Jay Cutler

Kristin Cavallari isn't one to let people insult her husband. In January, the reality TV star shared a photo of her and husband Jay Cutler on vacation, and fans went crazy over Cutler's "dad bod." "WTF did he eat himself?" one commenter wrote. Kristin responded in the best way possible, posting another Instagram of Cutler with the caption: "Since Jay looked like a 300-pound lesbian in my last post, I felt I should do him justice by posting him looking hot AF in this one."

Melania Trump and Donald Trump

When news of the now-infamous Donald Trump/Billy Bush leaked tapes broke, in which Trump discusses groping women, Melania was slow to respond. When she did, she defended Donald to CNN's Anderson Cooper by saying Donald was "egged on" by Bush. "I said to my husband that, you know, the language was inappropriate. It's not acceptable. And I was surprised, because that is not the man that I know," Melania said. She then said her husband and Billy were just using "boy talk."

Ryan Gosling and Eva Mendes

While promoting her makeup line in 2015, Eva Mendes made a joke about divorce to a room full of women. She said  "You can't do sweatpants. Ladies, number one cause of divorce in America, sweatpants, no!" People quickly took offense, so Gosling took to Twitter to defend her. "Obviously sweatpants thing was a joke," Ryan wrote. "Wearing them now. That's right, tweeting in sweatpants. Rats! Said too much! You win again Twitter."

Kristen Bell and Dax Shepard

Earlier in 2017, fans and moviegoers weren't too pleased with Dax Shepard's movie CHiPs. The film, which Shepard directed, wrote, and starred in with Bell, has jokes about homophobia that people found insensitive. Kristen Bell defended her husband in an interview with the Associated Press, saying, "If you really look at it and you hear Dax's arguments about why he wrote it... He's a feminist, for sure. He's also about the most un-homophobic person you could ever find!"

Swizz Beats and Alicia Keys

When Alicia Keys declared she would be makeup-free from now on in a Lenny Letter earlier this year, reactions were mixed, especially when she wore a natural face to the VMAs red carpet. Her husband, producer Swizz Beats, came to her defense in a video on Instagram, "Why are you mad at someone who decided not to put makeup on their face?" Great point, Swizz.

Justin Theroux and Jennifer Aniston

Earlier this year, Jennifer Aniston wrote a personal essay for the Huffington Post about paparazzi culture and the problems surrounding it. Later on, in an interview with Men's Health, husband Justin Theroux praised Aniston for her honesty.  "I was very proud of what she wrote," he said to Men's Health. "It was a rare insight into how disgusting all that is." He went on to comment about the constant attention his wife's stomach (and nonexistent baby bump) receives. "At some point it becomes bullying," he told the magazine. "It sucks when people aim cameras at your stomach on some bizarre womb watch. But more to the point, it's equally damaging to the national conversation." Preach.

Michelle Obama and Barack Obama

During Barack Obama's second presidential race, there was one debate that drew harsh criticism. People were upset with his performance, but Michelle told NewsOne in a round table interview that they were unfazed by the debate because of a rally that took place the next day. "There was a 35,000-person rally in Madison, Wisconsin. So what we always see is there's sort of the scrum [drama] and then there's what's happening in the world," Michelle said. "You have 35,000 people [who]…feel so passionate about this race that they want to make sure that they are engaged."

Gisele Bundchen and Tom Brady

After Tom Brady and the Patriots lost the Super Bowl in 2012, many blamed the loss on Brady. But Bundchen came to his defense, criticizing Patriots receivers. She was overheard saying, "My husband cannot f****ing throw the ball and catch the ball at the same time. I can't believe they dropped the ball so many times." Ouch!

Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie

When Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston broke up, the public had a field day learning America's favorite couple were no more. Many people blamed Jolie for the split. Pitt later defended Jolie in an interview with magazine, saying they didn't have an affair. "What people don't understand is that we filmed [Mr. & Mrs. Smith] for a year," Pitt said. "We were still filming after Jen and I split up. Even then it doesn't mean that there was some kind of dastardly affair. There wasn't. I'm very proud of the way that it was handled. It was respectful." We're bummed these two couldn't make it work in the end, and hope that respect is still intact

Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner

When Jennifer Garner and Ben Affleck split up, there was speculation about how much they would tell the media. Garner decided to give a very honest interview with Vanity Fair about the split, which Affleck fully supported. "She felt like she wanted to discuss it and get it out there and get it over with so she could say, 'Look, I already talked about it – I don't want to do it again,'" Affleck told The New York Times. "It's fine. She's allowed to talk about it."

Jason Sudeikis and Olivia Wilde

Olivia Wilde made headlines in 2014 when she posed for Glamour magazine while breastfeeding her son Otis, with some calling it inappropriate and distasteful. Sudeikis defended his wife's decision by telling Access Hollywood, "That was great. That's a working mom. [It was] not planned. He was there, and he did a little pop in visit to see mom and duty called."
