Tommy Hilfiger Talks About His Art and Travels, His Liaison with India, and More

Cosmo: The first thing you do in the morning...
Tommy Hilfiger: “I start my day at 6am with yoga or a run through Central Park. Then I typically have breakfast with my wife and our youngest son, Sebastian.”

C: A typical day in your life...
TH: “My days at the office are filled with everything from design reviews and board meetings to press interviews and brand events. I love that no two days are the same.”

C: How have your trips to India been?

H: “My first trip to India was in the early ’80s, when I was just starting out as a designer. Since then, I’ve visited many times and am always inspired by the country’s energetic culture, kind people, and eclectic heritage.”

C: Take us through an iconic ‘Tommy’ moment...
TH: “Many of my favourite memories from the past 30 years are tied to music, from sponsoring The Rolling Stones. Our recently announced sponsorship of the Rolling Stones’ Exhibitionism, that opened in London, and is now heading on a global tour over the next four years.”

C: You’re an art connoisseur. How do influences from your favourite artists find their way into your work?

TH: “My biggest inspirations come from pop culture:  fashion, art, music, and entertainment, which I summarise with the acronym FAME. I find inspiration everywhere—it could be from a visit to the MET or MoMA, a stroll
in Central Park with my youngest son, or heading to a concert with my family.

C: The most stylish woman in the world...

TH: “Gigi Hadid is the perfect example of the modern ‘Tommy Girl’. Her personality is always bright and optimistic, and her style is confident, effortless and cool.
