4 Artistic Pollock-Style Makeup Looks to Help You Get Noticed

The trends sprouting in the world of beauty have moved beyond the realm of what’s conventionally alluring. Be it artistic strokes in vivid colours, or a generous dose of glitter on your most prominent features, ‘out-there’ looks make for a striking picture.

1. Glitter
The trick to making this glittery, OTT mouth work off-the-runway is by opting for subtle colours. To cop the look, even out your skin tone with foundation, leaving the eyes bare to keep the focus on your lips. Apply a matte nude lipstick as base, and top it up with a nude gloss (try M·A·C Lipglass in Dreamy). The colour of lip gloss depends on the shade of glitter you want to use. Next, dip a lip brush into fine glitter and pat on to lips till they’re fully covered. Not sparkly enough for you? Once the glitter is set, swipe on a thin layer of gloss again, and top it up with nude sequins.

2.
Follow the same make-up prep as for the glittery mouth, only this time, leave the lips bare (or add just a hint of balm). For the eyes, swipe on a metallic shadow (try Stila Glitter & Glow Eye Shadow), extending it to your brows. Then, line the waterline with a bright, contrasting eye pencil—pink, blue, or green...the world’s your oyster. Next, take some mixing medium and add loose sequins in varying shapes, and using your fingers, pat it lightly over your lids and brows—use an angled brush for the lower lash line. Add a touch of blush and a few coats of mascara to finish the look.

3. Beautiful
As we saw a few pages ago, bold peepers really do take the cake when it comes to commanding attention. But who’s to say that both the lids need to look exactly the same? Nothing short of a work of art, you can use the same combination of hues, and blend it in an uneven fashion to recreate this surreal effect. Use a super-pigmented eyeshadow in a bright shade as base (try Kiko Milano Smart Colour Eyeshadow in Pearly Sea Blue), and pick two to three shades of complementing shades in powder finish that can be dusted over to create this beautiful mess.

4. Eyeconic Pairings
This look is not for the faint-hearted. Don’t get us wrong, we’re not asking you to step out of the house looking like someone splashed colour on you...the idea is to create a bold eye look using painterly strokes. Start by using a cream-to-matte shadow like L’Oréal Paris Infallible Paints Eye Shadow (it offers two contrasting shades, is easy to blend, and once dry, doesn’t budge at all), and swipe on the bolder shade in the centre of the lids, blending it outwards in an uneven finish. Add a hint of lighter shadow in the inner corner of eyes in a similar fashion...the messier, the better. Need more drama? A few coats of volumising mascara should do the trick. Cover up imperfections with a concealer (skip the foundation for this one). The final touch: a pink, matte lipstick to match the inner corners.
