When it comes to providing support and style, underwire bras are a great addition to your lingerie closet. So, here are some recommendations by Dr Kiruba Devi, head category and sourcing at Zivame to avoid some common bra problems!
5 Things Your Uncomfortable Bra is Trying to Tell You
Problem 1: Wires that dig into the skin!
One of the most common complaint, the answer is that you are wearing the incorrect bra size! "When your bra size is too small, digging, poking and tightness around your chest is almost always guaranteed. With the right sized wired bra you will feel comfortable, supported and shapely. No poking and no digging whatsoever,"says Dr Kiruba Devi.
SOLUTION: Measure yourself to know your correct size. Secondly, when you wear a wired bra just ensure that the centre panel lays comfortably flat against your breast bone and the wires fully encompass your breast tissue. Wearing the right sized wired bra will eliminate all the comfort related problems and you will be free to enjoy a well-supported, well-shaped bustline.
Problem 2: When the bra cups spilleth over...
Spillage is also a size related problem. You are wearing the wrong cup size resulting in your breasts spilling out of the wires, creating bulges.
SOLUTION: "After you have measured yourself and try the right sized wired bra, ensure that the wires fully encompass your breast tissue from the centre panel, running through the under bust up till your armpits. This will ensure you get maximum coverage and no longer have to deal with uncomfortable bulges," Dr Devi.
Problem 3: The underwires are breaking free.
Unfortunately, this just means that your wired bra needs to retire. "Like everything else, all good things must come to an end. As a rule of thumb, it is advised to change your Bra every six months. So, no matter how much you love your bra, let it go and make space for prettier wired bras in the future," she says.
Problem 4: Straps keep slipping across my shoulder.
If your bra straps keep playing peekaboo, it might be time to tighten them up. Did you know that you need to tighten your bra straps every month? And, if the problem persists then you may have narrow or sloped shoulders.
SOLUTION: you can adjust your straps to criss-cross across your back for firmer hold or opt for a racerback or convertible bra.
Problem 5: My Wired Bra is giving me rashes!
Are you hooking your wired bra too tight? Then, this could lead to angry rashes. "Your skin needs breathing space to remain dry and airy. Loosen your hooks and feel more comfortable instantly. Rashes may have another reason- not cleaning your bra properly. Sweat and detergent build-up can lead to itching and rashes."
SOLUTION: Remember to always hand wash your wired bra with a mild detergent and rinse it thoroughly. Air dry it on a flat surface, away from direct sunlight.
