9 Ways to Take Your Look From Shut-In to Shuttin' It Down

You can't spend all day, every day, nesting at home, watching Netflix, and ordering Seamless. Eventually, the outside world is going to force you to vacate your perfectly formed couch divot and step outside your front door. (Stupid outside world!) But just because you're abandoning your favorite chair doesn't mean you have to leave all notions of comfort behind with it. Here are nine ways to turn your favorite lying-around clothes into some seriously stylish looks that are as comfy as they are chic.

1. Onesie

Tie the sleeves of the onesie around your hips and then tuck in your shirt. A boxy jacket, worn open, will help conceal the any bulkiness the tied onesie might add around your hips.

Gray Jumpsuit, MICHAEL LAUREN (Available at Revolve), $158; Burgundy Lace Bralette, AERIE, $20; Brown Suede Jacket, TOPSHOP, $360;  Yellow Flannel, BELLA DAHL (Available at Bloomingdale's), $127; Gray Jumpsuit, MICHAEL LAUREN (Available at Revolve), $158; Green Crossbody Bag, REBECCA MINKOFF, $185; Gold Booties, SAM EDELMAN, $150; Sunglasses, COACH (Available at Sunglass Hut), $210

2. Cozy Sweater

Layer a cozy sweater over a sexy boho mini dress, then knot it on one side for a more fitted look.

Blue Sweater, TOPSHOP, $68; Polar Bear Pajama Bottoms, AERIE, $19; Mini Pebble Heart Necklace, VICTORIA DENY JEWELRY, $187; Gold Bones Cubes Bracelet, VICTORIA DENY JEWELRY, $423; Fragments Diamond Enamel Ring, VICTORIA DENY JEWELRY, $264; Spiral Ring, A PEACE TREATY, $118; Gold iPhone 6S Plus, APPLE, $749;  White Slip Dress, FREE PEOPLE (Available at Bloomingdale's), $88; Gray Fringe Boots, ZARA, $119; Cream Socks, AERIE, $13; Circle Pendant Necklace, A PEACE TREATY, $296.

3. Teddy Bear (Coat)

A fluffy teddy bear coat can't replace your well-loved stuffed animal, but it's a stylish way to keep the little guy with you in spirit while you slay shit in the real world.

Pink Silk Pajama Top, JOURNELLE, $148 (Sold as a Set); Cream Slip With Gold Stars, AERIE, $40; Socks, AERIE, $13; White Teddybear Coat, CALVIN KLEIN (Available at Macy's), $270; Boyfriend Jeans, RACHEL RACHEL ROY, (Available at Macy's), $42; Chambray Shirt, CLUB MONACO, $140; Nude Pumps, ZARA, $70; Blue Suede Drawstring Bag, REBECCA MINKOFF,  Feather Collar Necklace , REBECCA MINKOFF, $148; Ring, LELE SADOUGHI, $120; Blue Drawstring Bag, REBECCA MINKOFF, $245

4. Workout Leggings

The key to wearing leggings outside the gym is keeping the waistband covered. So, if you want to accentuate your waist, layer a cropped sweater or jacket over a longer top. That way, your waistband will be covered but your legs will still look super long.

Black Sports Bra, ONZIE (Available at Carbon38), $48; Leggings, THE UPSIDE (Available at Carbon38), $109; Black Sneakers, ZARA, $60; Gold iPhone 6S Plus, APPLE, $749;Black Leather Jacket, PAIGE (Available at Bloomingdale's), $1098;  White Silk Camisole, CLUB MONACO, $99; Cheetah Print Backpack, ASH (Available at Revolve), $395; Olive Green Ribbed Turtleneck, BAR III (Available at Macy's), $35; Twisted Hoop Earrings, LELE SADOUGHI, $135

5. Blanket (Scarf)

The only difference between a blanket and a blanket scarf is context. As long as it is thin enough to drape nicely around your body without getting too bulky, you're good to go.

Multicolor Blanket Scarf, A PEACE TREATY, $398; White Romper, LOVERS & FRIENDS (Available at Revolve), $160; Striped Turtleneck, TOPSHOP, $52; Jeans, MAVI, $118; Double Band Midi Ring, A PEACE TREATY, $112; X Midi Ring, A PEACE TREATY, $118; Spiral Ring, A PEACY TREATY, $118

6.  Sweatshirt

Dress up a casual sweatshirt with more tailored pieces like a pencil skirt, skinny pants, or a structured jacket. And don't be afraid to go a little wild with the accessories — a simple sweatshirt is the perfect blank canvas for expressing your own personal style.

Geometric Gray Sweatshirt, TOPSHOP, $50; Boyfriend Jeans, MAVI, $118; Glasses, BURBERRY (Available at Lens Crafters), $230; Black Ribbed Pencil Skirt, JAMES PERSE (Available at Revolve), $195; Leopard-Print Bag, COACH, $395; Red Plaid Pumps, COACH, $275; Gold Double Tassel Necklace, REBECCA MINKOFF, $88;  Gold Single Tassel Necklace, LELE SADOUGHI, $175; Wide Stone Bracelet, LELE SADOUGHI, $240; Narrow Stone Bracelet, LELE SADOUGHI, $170

7. Robe

Use a lightweight robe as a layering piece under a shorter jacket or blazer. It's really no different from a cardigan once you take off the belt.

Striped Robe, AERIE, $40; White Bralette, AERIE, $20; Metallic Hearts Mug, WEST ELM, $9; Burgundy Blazer, TOPSHOP, $125; White Silk Camisole, CLUB MONACO, $99; Black Jeans, MAVI, $118; Black Booties, SAM EDELMAN, $120; Green Saddle Bag, REBECCA MINKOFF, $275; Twisted Hoop Earrings, LELE SADOUGHI, $135

8. Long Cardigan

Look for a long cardigan with buttons; that way you can do them up and wear it as a dress. Don't bother belting it — it will look cooler if it is a little bit boxy — and layer it over a lacy camisole or chemise for an extra feminine touch.

Long Cardigan, TOPSHOP, $75; Pink Lace Chemise, JOURNELLE, $88; Gold Earrings, A PEACE TREATY, $180; Gold 12-Inch MacBook, APPLE, $1,299; Sunglasses, PRADA (Available at Sunglass Hut), $260;  Sherpa Crossbody Bag, SAM EDELMAN, $198 ; Nude Pumps, ZARA, $70;  Earrings, A PEACE TREATY, $248

9. Sweatpants

Structured pieces are essential for dressing up soft and slouchy knit pants or sweats — otherwise, you could end up looking like you just rolled out of bed. That said, if tailored jackets and tops just really aren't your thing, graphic details (like the little square holes on this crop top) will create the illusion of structure, even if the garment itself is a little shapeless.

White Silk Camisole. CLUB MONACO, $98; Gray Knit Sweatpants, CLUB MONACO, $298; White Cutout T-shirt, AMUSE (Available at Revolve), $74; Plaid Leather Backpack, COACH, $550; Black Sneakers, ZARA, $60; Headphones, FRENDS, $200; Narrow Stone Bracelet, LELE SADOUGHI, $170; Gold iPhone 6S Plus, APPLE, $749
