What Your Venus Sign Says About Your Relationships (and Why You Shouldn’t Freak Out if Your Sun Signs Clash)

As you probably already know, Venus is the planet of love, beauty, and pleasure. It influences how we express affection, who we’re attracted to, and our own allure. Given how important romantic relationships can be to us, it’s surprising we don’t pay more attention to our Venus sign, because it’s a better indicator of who we should be with than our Sun sign. (You can find yours if you know your birth time and location.)

Speaking of Sun signs, here’s a fun fact: Venus is often called Earth’s “sister planet” because it’s very similar in size, mass, and density and it’s closer to Earth in orbit than any other planet. This proximity means that your Venus sign will often be the same sign as your Sun sign or, at most, only two signs away.

Now that you have yours (or your crush’s/boo’s), here’s what it all means:

Venus in Aries

Venus in Aries people come at their objects of affection like a steam train: full on and straight ahead. They are direct and honest and want the same in return (although if a partner feels too available, they can get bored because they never lose their appetite for the thrill of the chase). People are drawn to them because of their confident and up-front attitude as well as their red-hot sex appeal.

They crave high-energy, passionate relationships. Lots of spontaneous thrill-seeking adventures and equally electrifying sex, thank you very much. They have an ego as well, so making them feel like they’ve beat out the competition for your affection is a major turn-on!

Good matches: Venus in Aries, Leo, Sagittarius, Scorpio, or Libra

Venus in Taurus

Taurus is already ruled by Venus, so people with Venus in Taurus come ready-made with plenty of sensuality, a strong sex drive, and a serious cuddling obsession. They love love and all its trappings and just want to create a cozy nest to share with someone special. That means they like to know where they stand in relationships ASAP and can become a li’l bit jealous and protective in the process.

Theirs is a very physical love, and they crave attention and reassurance. Venus in Taureans rarely chase others—instead, people come to them because they seem like a person who’d have a good time and know what they’re doing on a date (all true). Date nights with them are lingering, private affairs—either drinks and food somewhere fancy or a cute-AF night in (think string lights, blanket forts, and rom-coms). They don’t enjoy being rushed, surprised, or pushed in any way, and they can rouse themselves to a silent fury if they feel manipulated.

Good matches: Venus in Taurus, Capricorn, Virgo, Libra, or Scorpio

Venus in Gemini

Venus in Geminis are a handful in love for most people because they can’t stand to be tied down at all. Freedom and variety is their catnip and relationships can be tricky because the whole point IS to commit a wedge of time to one person (partners will find themselves having to explain this to them). They can be fickle, change their minds rapidly, flirt with others, and so on. Curiosity is what motivates them. Emotions freak them out a bit, so their partners will feel that although they talk, like, constantly, they may be sticking to the surface over going deep into any one area...especially, ugh, feelings.

On the plus side: Dates will be adventures followed by a chance to dissect and discuss them. They make exciting partners and are never short of suitors because of their youthful, animated, and lively personalities, even if their lack of emotional intensity can make their other half feel a bit, well, lonely sometimes. The best bet is getting a partner who has an equally good social life of their own, and then everyone is happy.

Good matches: Venus in Gemini, Libra, Aquarius, Virgo, or Sagittarius

Venus in Cancer

Venus in Cancers crave security, loyalty, and steadfastness. They adore (indeed, demand) romantic gestures, sentimental speeches, and as much PDA as you can give them. This is the key to unlocking their guarded heart (because deep down, they fear abandonment and are literally on red alert for betrayal 24/7, which can get kinda tiring, actually). Once they’ve opened up, though, they will shower their partner with love, affection, and sooo much attention. They are perceptive and intuitive observers who can sniff out a secret from miles away and can tune in to the true (even unconscious) desires of those they care for.

Dates will involve snuggling, cuddling, and long talks deep into the night about anything and everything. They are great company and make others feel truly understood and cared about. Sometimes, though, their abandonment anxiety can influence them into playing weird mind games and deploying annoying tactics to “test” their partner’s affection and loyalty. Ideally, over time, these episodes fade away (and if they don’t, that’s diving into toxic relationship territory). But once they do truly feel safe, no partner could be more dependable, loving, and understanding.

Good matches: Venus in Cancer, Scorpio, Pisces, or Capricorn

Venus in Leo

Nothing is more important to the Venus in Leo than love. It’s what makes their world go round and what consumes their waking thoughts. They’re really quite theatrical in courtship, like they’re playing the lead in a dramatic period piece about a forbidden romance. They’ll strut and peacock about, shaking their tail feathers, and objects of affection had better be prepared to applaud and praise these (honestly, quite cute) displays—or face their wrath.

Venus in Leo people are warmhearted, generous, and actually quite simple. Basically, the barometer of a healthy relationship for them is how much attention they’re getting. Partners who are flighty, indifferent, distracted, or moody will soon discover this leads to massive sulking (and subsequent fights). They need attention, appreciation, and passion, but in return, partners are rewarded with a person who wines, dines, and entertains them in the biggest ways. If you want to live in a love story, this is where it’s at.

Good matches: Venus in Leo, Aries, Sagittarius, or Aquarius

Venus in Virgo

Venus in Virgo people are all about the details, so they’ll take their time getting to know someone, steadfastly clocking up necessary knowledge and insight into what makes the object of their affection tick—usually conducted from a safe distance initially. Indeed, it can take some time before a person even realizes that a Venus in Virgo actually likes them at all, as they are innately cautious, sensitive, and reserved (they don’t like making the first move, nooo thank you).

This wealth of knowledge they accumulate about their partners (and their Virgo-ish perfectionism) can lead them into nagging their S.O.s, pointing out what could be done better or just passive-aggressively doing it themselves. On the bright side, they show their love via help, consideration, and practical support, so if you’re into that, then Venus in Virgo is a total catch!

Good matches: Venus in Virgo, Taurus, Capricorn, Gemini, or Pisces

Venus in Libra

Venus in Libras are accomplished in the love game—they’re excellent flirts, gentle lovers, and true romantics at heart. They also like everything to be harmonious, balanced, and idealized, which can come off as superficial or unrealistic because life is typically more complicated, messy, and unfair than they like having to deal with. Their natural charm and eye for aesthetics give them a desire for a fairy-tale-esque love.

They are pleasing and accommodating partners, sharing their life readily and adapting to others’ needs without a fuss. However, if their compromising, fair nature is taken advantage of, it can lead to tension as they try to fix the balance. The trick to making a relationship work with a Venus in Libra is to always be fair and do your share of the work. Treat them how you wish to be treated, and they will return the favor to a T.

Good matches: Venus in Libra, Gemini, Aquarius, Taurus, or Aries

Venus in Scorpio

People with Venus in Scorpio attract others readily because they have a hardwired sexuality and a fearless, concentrated need for intensity with others. Aka anyone they’re interested in definitely knows about it (and may find it hard to resist their explosive energy). There are no boundaries to the levels of intimacy they seek, although they do not allow this laser-beam analysis to be focused back at them (they are secretive and guarded AF).

Does this all sound a bit heavy? Maybe, and for many people, it can be too much. Venus in Scorpios can be jelly, cutting, and provocative in their affections. That said, they are also incredibly loyal, deep, interested in their partner on all levels, and an absolute powerhouse in bed. So, life will never be dull, that’s for sure! Dare you date one?

Good matches: Venus in Scorpio, Pisces, Cancer, Aries, or Taurus

Venus in Sagittarius

Those with Venus in Sagittarius are extremely attractive people—flirty, fun, warm, outgoing, and eager to make a connection. Hookups come easily to them but committed relationships less so because they possess a deeply rooted need to remain free and open to options. They are restless at heart and can easily ghost if things get tough or they feel stifled, criticized, or uninspired.

The key to having a great relationship with a Venus in Sagittarius is to first give them their space, difficult as it may feel when partners know just how flirty and distracted they can get. The second ingredient (which is way more fun) is to be a true life partner for them by being involved in all their big ideas. They want to explore the world and as idealists, they want an equally freedom-loving partner by their side (who can keep up, if not go slightly ahead and challenge them onward).

Good matches: Venus in Sagittarius, Aries, Leo, or Gemini

Venus in Capricorn

Venus in Capricorns are born cautious, materially ambitious, and destined to go places, so they’re looking for a suitably impressive mate they can take anywhere and even show off a bit. If they could use an algorithm to match them to this person and save all the chasing, flirting, and uncertainty, they would. They just want the right end result without all the pesky messiness of dating around.

Others are drawn to them because of their cool, calm, and collected aura. They don’t make a fuss, talk over people, or blurt out cringeworthy opinions—they’re a guaranteed safe bet when introducing them to your besties. Although they’re generally frugal (always saving for the future), when dating, they want to impress their partner, so nights out and trips will not be shabby affairs. Whilst not the most passionate or fun-loving partner, they are incredibly loyal and resilient and the kind of person you can really lean on.

Good matches: Venus in Capricorn, Taurus, Virgo, or Cancer

Venus in Aquarius

Venus in Aquarius people seek a friend as well as a lover, someone they can bounce ideas off of, play with, and challenge. Their head definitely rules their heart, and they approach every situation with reason and logic. This can make them seem kinda aloof at times, and they are truly appalled by sentimentality and PDA (their ideal Valentine’s Day or anniversary is best spent at a random, quirky dive bar rather than a $$ restaurant or hotel).

Lovers can expect an eccentric, unique partner who is up for anything, puts no rules or boundaries in place, and makes magical, spontaneous date suggestions (and they look for someone to really go with their flow). Freedom is the common theme here. They need acres of room to roam and explore the world, and they will give their partner the same. So if you’re into that kind of vibe, then this sign is a great match. If not…good luck.

Good matches: Venus in Aquarius, Libra, Gemini, or Leo

Venus in Pisces

Venus in Pisces people are the zodiac’s classic romantics—intriguing, serene, forgiving, poetic, playful, and sensitive. They’re almost too sweet for the world and need to be guarded in the highest room of the tallest tower until a suitable Prince(ss) Charming appears. Because they’re so nice, they can find it hard to say no to all their suitors (they have a lot because they’re so easy to get along with), even if some of them, frankly, suck.

Their extreme sensitivity, however, can test relationships; they’re deeply affected by everything around them and often feel confused and overwhelmed by life (and they’re not the best at expressing when they feel this way). They’re also drawn to the underdog or troubled soul (i.e., f*ckboy), so they can have some iiinteresting exes (or just a lot of them). But if anything, it’s a testament to their big heart—they just need someone who can give that love back rather than take advantage of it.
