Neptune is Astrology's Messiest Planet—Here’s How to Avoid the Drama

Scenario 1: Imagine you meet-cute with a hottie at a bar. All the blood in your body legit rushes to your head and you fall instantly in love. You’re inseparable. But, it’s too hard, too fast. A few weeks later, after several dates, you realize that they aren’t the person you thought they were.

Scenario 2: A friend tells you about a plan to increase your cash flow in a flash. They invite you to invest in some get-rich-quick scheme that seems suspicious, but you aren’t quite sure why. You decide to give them your money—never to see it or them again. You try to contact them—only to find out that their phone has been disconnected and their Facebook profile deleted.

Scenario 3: You confront a boo, friend, coworker, or family member about their ways. Instead of admitting wrongdoing or taking accountability, they begin to place the blame on you. You begin to believe what they say is true. Maybe you’re the problem and not them—this couldn’t be further from the truth IRL, but you’re caught up in the belief that you did something wrong.

These are *all* examples of Neptunian transits. Known in the astrological circle as “the divine discontent,” Neptune—which recently went direct after a bunch of months in retrograde, JSYK—is known to put blinders on our eyes, which helps us to ignore red flags. Our minds become more susceptible to being swayed in a certain direction, even though our emotions are heightened. We can pick up feelings from others and believe that those emotions are truly ours.

Here’s exactly how Neptune messes with us:

  • It gives us a cute pair of rose-colored glasses. Neptune creates an illusion that allows us to only see what we want. We can get a little lost in the fog and see only the good in others—even if they aren’t necessarily nice and trustworthy people IRL. We only see beauty, not necessarily the truth.
  • It delivers so. Much. Yikes. We’re talking deception, sense of false security, gaslighting, and paranoia. Because Neptune is a slippery planet, we are sometimes forced to doubt ourselves. A distrust can permeate our minds, which may or may not be real. Substances, like happy house dranks, can make us not see matters clearly and Neptune can certainly push us to drink more. We also believe what others tell us to believe. Our minds are desensitized and that allows for others to use gaslighting and manipulation tactics to control us.
  • It makes us doubt out intuition. Well, don’t. The best way to counteract Neptune is to lean hard on it. If something or someone doesn’t feel right—run away. If you get a cringey feeling in your gut, then perhaps you are better off not exploring a relationship or situation, rather than involving yourself trying to understand it—just let it go and move on.

And here’s how to deal with the energy:

Neptune is known to be a creative planet because it allows us to see the world through a different lens—which you can use to your advantage by:

  • Getting creative. An adult coloring book, art class, or cooking class will help absorb the Neptunian vibes.
  • Turning up your playlists. Go to concerts, tear it up at the clurb, take a dance lesson. Neptune loves to see it.
  • Going to the beach or taking a vacay near the ocean. Neptune is the lord of the sea—being near the water will bring clarity to the mind and resilience to our thoughts.
