Hey, the Universe Got You a Present: a Solar Eclipse

Whether or not you celebrate Christmas, you may want to consider taking this holiday week off from, like…everything. At precisely 12:13 a.m. ET on December 26th—a few hours after Santa hangs up his jacket and calls it a night—the Sun and Moon meet in Capricorn and form a powerful solar eclipse.

So if you already thought the holidays were stressful, you have another thing comin’ for you. Here’s everything you need to know about this lunation that will get the fire on your yule log going.

Wait, what even is an eclipse?

Eclipses occur when the Moon reaches the upper and lower boundaries of its elliptical orbit, between three to seven times each year. As it touches these thresholds, known as the lunar nodes, the Moon aligns perfectly with the Sun and Earth to form a lunar or solar eclipse.

Lunar eclipses occur during Full Moons and are associated with release, whereas solar eclipses are triggered by New Moons and generate opportunity. These things are a big deal, you guys. In astrology, the lunar nodes (the North and South Nodes) are referred to as the Nodes of Fate. The South Node symbolizes past life, while the North Node exposes your destiny. Think of them as your karmic “before and after.” These nodes are always in opposite signs. (P.S. It’s super easy to spot these nodes in your birth chart—they look like little horseshoes.)

This holiday season, the Sun and Moon will meet at 4 degrees Capricorn, creating a holly, jolly solar eclipse.

Okay, so what does it mean for me?

The best way to understand the impact of this upcoming solar eclipse is to look backward. Eclipses are essentially narratives that unfold over time. This particular eclipse series in Cancer-Capricorn began in 2018, so take a moment to reflect on these dates: July 12th, 2018; January 5th, 2019; and July 16th, 2019. What were the general themes? Who was involved? And—perhaps most important—how have you evolved?

Since solar eclipses correspond with new beginnings and unexpected opportunities, you may receive some invaluable info during this time. However, this realization may begin internally, since the Sun (representing your external radiance) is being obscured by the Moon (representing your emotional inner world). For instance, you may realize you are unhappy with your job and need a lot more than you’re currently being rewarded. Open an honest dialogue with the Universe that clearly outlines your goals and aspirations.

We’re currently at the midpoint of this eight-part Cancer-Capricorn eclipse cycle, with only four more lunations remaining (January 10th, 2020; June 21st, 2020; and July 5th, 2020). Likewise, this is an excellent time to focus on what you truly desire in the year ahead. You’ve come so far. Why stop now?

The reality is that this solar eclipse doesn’t care if you’ve been naughty or nice—it just wants you to be honest. The more you lean into your truth, advocate for your needs, and trust your intuition, the faster you’ll move full speed ahead onto the road that will guide your highest purpose. And c’mon...what could be a better gift to yourself than that?
