Apple's Next IPhone Is Likely To Feature Wireless Charging

Apple could finally be about to fix one of the things you hate the most about owning a mobile phone. Yes, the end of searching for a charger could be in sight, after multiple reports suggest the tech giant will add wireless charging to the iPhone 8. OOH.

Rumors have swirled for years, but an analyst at KGI Securities claims that all three new iPhones expected to launch later this year will come without charging cables, Macrumors reports.

While the Apple Watch already works with a magnetic cable that powers the device wirelessly, the iPhone has never had the sought-after feature. Yet the news that Apple has joined the Wireless Power Consortium is the latest hint that it will join Samsung and Google in ending the cable clutter that comes with powering smartphones.

Technology which allows power to be transferred over the air looks like it's the way forward, but it has proved to be problematic in the past. The most commonly used format requires a charging mat, and the efficiency of power transfer is said to decrease as the distance between the transmitter and receiver grows. This means batteries take longer to recharge.

According to Bloomberg, this is something Apple is hoping to fix. The brand is said to be "exploring cutting-edge technologies" which will allow iPhones to be charged from further distances from the power source.

It could be a game-changer, but as to be expected, wireless charging doesn't come cheap. Kuo expects the iPhone 8 to have a significant redesign to prevent overheating, as wireless charging is said to increase the internal temperature of smartphones. A new 3D touch module could be up to $5 more expensive for Apple to buy per phone, which has fuelled reports claiming the high-end iPhone 8 could cost over $1,000.

If you're prone to losing your charger ???, it could be time to start saving up.
