The Surprising Thing Flight Attendants Wish You Wouldn't Ask
  • A flight attendant has revealed the one question they wish passengers wouldn't ask, and it might surprise you.

Flight attendants must be on the receiving end of a variety of passenger questions, mustn't they? From 'When can I have a gin and tonic?' to 'How long until we land?', all sorts of requests must come thick and fast in order to put nervous and frequent flyers at ease.

But there's one surprising question they apparently wish passengers wouldn't ask, after a cabin crew member revealed all on FlyerTalk. According to Sarah Steegar, it's always a bit awkward when passengers ask crew to move other passengers around so they can sit together.

"I know it’s no fun to travel separated, but I have no real authority to make people move - unless talking about special need passengers like young children, the elderly or passengers with disabilities" Sarah explains (via The Sun).

"If you’re asking me [to move people for you], it means you saw that the seat map was full, didn’t try [to swap seats at] the gate (where it should be handled) and/or the agents have already said they couldn’t do anything.

"If it was easy it would have been done already, right? Agents often pass this buck to us, and we simply have nowhere else to pass it. I have little power here, but you’re standing there looking so unhappy that it’s hard to say no."

This make senses. If the rest of the passengers are happy with where they are sat, it shouldn't be up to the cabin crew to ask them to move to please another passenger. Like Sarah advises, this request should be put in at the check-in desk, or down to you to kindly ask a fellow traveller whether they'd be willing to move.
