How the Internet Came Together to Help This Elderly Couple: A Heartwarming Tale

With the numerous ongoing conversations about the toxic nature and dark side of social media, it warms our hearts when we come across a story like this.

A few days ago, the video of an elderly man who runs a food stall in Delhi's Malviya Nagar went viral on Twitter. The 80-year-old Kanta Prasad was in tears about not being able to make ends meet. He and his wife Badami Devi have been running a small stall serving basic Indian meals successfully for over 30 years. But their business was hit hard during the coronavirus-induced lockdown. Even after restrictions were lifted, they found it impossible to draw customers.

In an effort to help them raise funds, food journalist Gaurav Wasan shared the couple's video on his Instagram account and YouTube channel. The video was seen by more than 2 crore people on Instagram, and shared by Sonam Kapoor, Swara Bhaskar and AAP politician Somnath Bharti (who even visited the stall).

What followed is a heartwarming tale that will restore your faith in the goodness of people. As the video went viral and was reshared a countless number of times, crowds of customers and media people have been thronging to support the stall. From not being able to make ends meet by earning a meagre Rs 70 a day, the couple are now selling out before noon! To add to this, Zomato has officially listed the couple's stall on their app, so that it can be discovered by even more people.

In trying times like these, it is important to support local businesses and vendors, now more than ever. As this story brings a smile to your face, remember to do your bit and shop local. Reach out to your own local businesses and support them with your patronage, so you can help them tide through these difficult times.
