Getting the Covid-19 Vaccine Can Help You Find an Online Dating Match

Dating apps have come up with a new way to improve your online dating cred: they are swiping right for Covid-19 vaccines. Online dating profiles will now display vaccination badge, which will let you know if a potential match has been vaccinated. They will also boost your profile to make it more visible to potential matches, offer free access to premium content (such as boosts, super likes and super swipes) and add filters for potential hook-ups based on people's vaccination status.

These features are currently being offered in the US, where The White House has recently partnered with online dating apps such as Tinder, Match, Bumble and more to encourage more people to get vaccinated against Covid-19. News regarding the rollout of such features in India is yet to be confirmed.

Social distancing and dating were always a bit of a challenging combination," White House coronavirus adviser Andy Slavitt told reporters on Friday. He said that research by online dating site has shown that people who displayed their vaccination status were 14 per cent more likely to get a match. "We have finally found the one thing that makes us all more attractive: a vaccination," he said.

Along with displaying a badge showing your vaccination status, various apps are offering incentives such as boosting your online visibility, free access to premium content, filters based on vaccination status and more. With a large portion of the US population already vaccinated, the country has started loosening restrictions and people are returning to some semblance of a normal life, including going out on dates. These new features are aimed at encouraging more young people to get vaccinated and also make the online dating experience safer for users.

Individual apps are yet to confirm if and when these features will be rolled out in India. Given that vaccinations for the 18-44 age group—which forms a major chunk of online dating app users— were opened up relatively recently, it might still be some time before we see vaccination badges and incentives launched in India.
