So what inspired her to take to the board? For starters, Oorbee belongs to a family of skaters. Her husband and children both skateboard, so she tried to give it a spin. Finding it freeing and addictive, she persevered and decided to document her journey on Tik Tok. And boy, did her videos take off! Oorbee's 'Aunty Skates' persona went viral, and you can see why.

“I started Aunty Skates because I think this year, especially because of Coronavirus, and the lack of sunlight in Canada. I just felt this heaviness amongst everybody around me," shared  Oorbee in a recent online interview. "There's just a general depression, so I started Aunty Skates to just spread some joy and positivity because it was so dark."

'Aunty Skates' isn't afraid to share her fails as well as her cool skateboarding tricks, nor does she shy away from poking fun at 'toxic aunty'  stereotypes with her tongue-in-cheek online persona. “I really didn't realise that it would resonate with so many people and that so many people would write such positive comments on my posts, telling me things like you've inspired me to start skating again, or I thought it was too late for me but now I'm going to go get a skateboard.”

“It really is never too late to live your best life”, she exclaims. “I'm so happy that there are people that see me skating, and they might think “well, if she can do it, I can do it, too”. That makes me so happy, you know?”
