Big budget Hollywood blockbusters are back with a bang! As we cautiously venture back to cinemas with proper protocols in place, these larger than life films promise to transport us to alternate realities and exciting worlds, with spectacular visuals and immersive plot lines. And, with the announcement of Dune 2 last night ( Fans can let out a sigh of relief), it looks like audiences can’t get enough. If you are planning to head back to the cinemas this weekend, here are 5 films to watch on the big screen (or at home later if you would like to stay safe and wait a little longer, you do you).

1. Dune

Dune (titled onscreen as Dune: Part One) is a 2021 American epic sci-fi film directed by award-winning director Denis Villeneuve. A two-part adaptation of the extremely popular 1965 eponymous novel by Frank Herbet, part one primarily covers the first half of the book. Set in the far future, it follows Paul Atreides as he and his family, the noble House Atreides are thrust into a war for the dangerous desert planet Arrakis. The film features an all-star ensemble cast including Timothee Chalamet, Rebecca Ferguson, Oscar Isaac, Josh Brolin and Jason Mamoa amongst others. The initial reaction to the film is one of critical acclaim. If nothing else, go watch this for the stunning visuals, background score and amazing performances by the lead actors.


2. The Last Duel

The Last Duel is an epic historical drama film directed and produced by Ridley Scott. It is based on the 2004 book of the same name written by Eric Jager. Set in medieval France, the film stars Matt Damon as  a knight who challenges his friend and squire played by Adam Driver to a judicial duel after his wife accuses him (Adam Driver) of raping her. Big budget sets and an all-star cast makes this one to enjoy on the big screen.

The twenty-fifth in the iconic James Bond series, this one stars Danial Craig in his fifth and final outing as the fictional British MI6 agent. Get ready for some nail-biting action, amazing special effects, dapper style and the best luxury cars and locations in true Bond fashion.


4. Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings

Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings is an American super hero film by Marvel based featuring the character Shang-Chi.It is the 25th film in the MCU.In the film, Shang-Chi is forced to confront his past when his father Wenwu, the leader of the Ten Rings organization, draws Shang-Chi and his sister Xialing into a search for a mythical village. If you haven't seen it yet, this one offers non-stop entertainment and a visual treat. 


5. Venom: Let There Be Carnage

A dark superhero film featuring the Marvel Comics character Venom,  this it is the second film in Sony's Spider-Man Universe and the sequel to Venom (2018). The film is directed by Andy Serkis and based on a story co-written byTom Hardy who stars as Eddie Brock/ Venom. In the film, Brock struggles to adjust to life as the host of the alien symboite Venom, while serial killer Celtus Kasady (played by WoodyHarrelson) escapes from prison after becoming the host of Carnage, a chaotic spawn of Venom.
