This Woman From Tamil Nadu is Now India's First Female Referee for FIFA

Rupa Devi has been shortlisted by FIFA as a referee to officiate international football matches.

In what is now being called a giant leap for women's football in India, Rupa Devi has now become India's first female football referee to officiate international matches for FIFA!

Rupa, from Tamil Nadu, had been enrolled in Asia's Future Referees, being the only Indian woman there, and was shortlisted by FIFA as an international referee.

24-year-old Rupa has been playing football, and been a referee, at local and state levels and also the  AFC Under-14 Football Festival held in Doha, in 2013.

On this, Rupa says,"At Doha, I was given the opportunity to officiate as a central referee in three matches, one as the assistant referee and another as the fourth referee. I have done the job to the best of my ability. I am hoping for more opportunities."

Here's hoping that this incredible achievement just serves as a stepping stone for all the aspiring young footballers in India, both female and male, to persevere and reach for the stars, like Rupa did!
