This Stupid App Wants You to Stop Saying "Like" So Much

At university, I had a professor who banned the word "like" from his classroom so we could all "speak better" and sound more like adults. It was terrible and hard and I hated it. And now there's apparently a phone app that will help you do the same thing in your everyday life! No professor or classroom setting needed! Neato!

Released earlier this week, LikeSo is an iPhone app that "acts as your personal speech coach offering a fun and engaging way to train against the toxic like, ya know syndrome." LOL, yes, "TOXIC." Did you know that every time a woman utters an extraneous "like," everyone around her is poisoned a little? Yes, you guys, we're all killing each other with our conversation "fillers." It's toxic.

To help you train the "likes" out of your speech, the app will either give you a conversation prompt to discuss, or you can select the free speech option, and just sorta ramble on about whatever. The app then records what you say, and tells you how many times you used fillers like "like," "ya know," "I mean," "so," and "actually." (OK I can sorta get behind eliminating actually from speech, but only when it's random men interrupting me with it.)

At the end of your little speech to your phone, LikeSo analyses what you said and spits back a percentage score for how "articulate" you sounded. The fewer filler words you used, the better your score.

I foolishly thought the whole, like, policing women's speech trend was over but it's not! How great for us all. Like, do whatever you want, but I'm not downloading this app. I've yet to encounter someone who was disgusted or poisoned by my toxic use of the word "like" to the point that they had to leave the room.
