Tea Sommelier Snigdha Manchanda on Brews for Different Moods

Feeling happy, sad or creative...there's a tea for all kinds of feelings.

It is so ironic that in a country that's obsessed with chai, being a tea sommelier isn't something you hear very often when you ask people what they do for a living. "I grew up collecting teas. Friends and family who would travel well would bring back tea as presents. And at one point, I owned over 100 rare and exotic teas from China, Japan, Taiwan, Russia, England, Turkey, Greece, Egypt, Kenya and so on," says Snigdha Manchanda, Founder of Tea Trunk, a one-of-a-kind curated e-store that sells teas. "I owned this tea treasure but I knew little about these teas. So in 2011, my passion for tea took me to a professional tea school in Sri Lanka, where I studied under the guidance of Japanese tea master, Nao Kumekawa," adds Snigdha.

That's why we thought it would be a great idea to check with Snigdha on what kinds of tea are fit for different kinds of moods. Do we have the attention of all the chaivinists out there? We thought as much!

Here's what you should be sipping when you want to be:

Calm and Relaxed: Snigdha recommends Tea Trunk's Camomile Herb Tea (or any teas that include chamomile) because it's caffeine free. Another kind of tea that one could have to calm the body is Lavender White Tea because it's low in caffeine.

Energetic and Productive: To wake up mind and body, one needs to have teas that have high caffeine index. Also teas that are rich in spices and herbs like the Apple Spice Black Tea, Ginger Root Black Tea, Chilli Chai or the Masala Chai are also known to have pull you up when feeling a li'l sluggish.

Happy and Rejuvenated: Snigdha suggests a cup of Mint and Orange Green Tea or Lemongrass Tea, both of which are known to have mood-boosting properties..

Detoxed: According to Snigdha, Pure White Tea, Kashmiri Saffron Kahwa Green Tea, and Rose Oolong Tea are great when you're looking at flushing out the toxins.
