10 Super-Cool Waterfalls to Check Out This Monsoon!

If you're looking for an avant-garde place to unwind this monsoon—here's an idea: Waterfalls! 

We have some pret-ty amazing ones (did you even KNOW that?) that can pretty easily give the Niagara Falls a run for its money.

Here are our curated top 10...

1. Dhuandhar Falls, Madhya Pradesh

Also known as the Smoke Cascade, Dhuandhar Falls has a spectacular view of Narmada river falling from 98 feet high. About 30 kms away from Jabalpur, it's so pretty and green, it's gorgeous!

Here's why it's named the way it—Dhuan means smoke, and the mist formed by the water falling on hard rocks creates surreal visuals of smoke emanating from the river bed. How stunning is that?!?

2. Jang Falls, Arunachal Pradesh

These falls are created by the Nuranag river and are one of the most amazing waterfalls in the country. About 40 kms away from the little town of Tawang, it falls from about 100 meters high into beautiful, green mountains. 

Little tip: Before you go, make sure you get a permit to enter Arunachal Pradesh, and keep all your credentials ready—you'll be asked for it.

3. Bhimtal Falls, Rajasthan

Even though this is just 60 meters high, these falls are pretty damn spectacular. 

Another interesting reason to check it out? According to mythology, this waterfall was created by Bhim for his mother Kunti (historians disagree though. They think these falls were created after an earthquake).

4. Soochippara Falls, Kerala

Also known as Sentinel Rock Waterfalls, you can go anytime in the year—it's just about a 20 minute drive from Meppadi in Wayanad district to reach here. You'll have to park your car about 2 km ahead, though, and walk to it. But trust us, it's worth it! 

 Bonus: the rock climbing and trekking here is totally amazeballs!! 

5. Jog Falls, Karnataka

At a whopping 829 feet, this is one of the tallest waterfalls in India. If you're a water baby and  love swimming, try and hike down to the base where there's a beautiful river awaits you. You can also check out the Watkins platform to see the panoramic view of the place, and the nearby area is also a must-visit if you love trekking.

6. Athirapally Waterfalls,Kerala

Popularly called as the 'Niagara of India', Athirapally waterfalls are only 24 meters high but goddamn it's wide! And if you love wildlife, there's all sorts of treats—this region is home to species like Great Indian Hornbill, Cochin Forest Cane Turtle and the Nilgiri Langur. 

7. The Langshiang Falls, Meghalaya

About 340 meters altogether, Langshiang Falls are an untouched, unexplored natural wonder that HAS to make it to your bucket list.One of the largest waterfalls in the country, it's made up of a series of waterfalls, adding up to one long and gorgeous fall. You can see it from the nearby villages but you can only reach the falls by boat. Since the place is practically undiscovered, it helps to carry your own food and drinks with you.

8. Nohkalikai Falls, Meghalaya

Easy to get to at any point in the year, Nohkalikai Falls is around 335 meters high and is located in Cherrapunji—the wettest place on earth. Its gorgeous view is almost indescribable—and it's this surreal, green-blue colour that's totally stunning!

9. Papanasam Waterfall, Tamil Nadu

Around 60 KM from Tinrunelveli,this is the highest waterfall (120 meters) in the whole state. 

It also has about 100 types of medicinal herbs, the Kalakad Mundanthurai Tiger Reserve, and migratory birds. Plus, the neighbouring Manjolai Hills have some gorgeous views of the landscape around.

10. Barachukki Falls, Karnatika

An ideal getaway spot from Bangalore, Barachukki falls has a gorgeous view—and it's famous for being the location of Asia's first hydro-electric power station (set up in1902–which is still functional, FYI!)
