Beer is Good for You! Scientists Say a Pint a Day is Good for Your Heart

Nothing tastes better on a warm summer's day than a freshly poured, frothy pint of beer. But as one of the most calorific options to go for, we usually steer clear of the fizzy golden nectar. Up until now at least.

If you have a penchant for a pint or two, then you'll be pleased to know that new research has revealed that drinking a glass of beer a day is actually good for your heart

Scientists from the Mediterranean Neurological Institute in Italy claimed that drinking moderate amounts of beer could reduce risk of heart disease by up to 25 per cent.

The team reviewed more than 150 comprehensive studies, concluding that drinking up to two 1.4 pints of beer a day for men, and one 1.4 pint for women, could have a beneficial effect on heart health.

It was also noted in the studies that drinking beer would not increase the chances of developing other illnesses including dementia and cancer.

Writing in the journal Nutrition, Metabolism & Cardiovascular Disease, scientists wrote: 'Unless they are at high risk for alcohol-related cancers of alcohol dependency, there is no reason to discourage healthy adults who are already light or moderate beer consumers from continuing.

'Data reported in this document show evidence for no harm of moderate beer consumption for major chronic conditions and some benefit against cardiovascular disease.'

Sounds pretty good to us! Of course we're not saying to guzzle pints in their plenty — everything in moderation of course — but if an odd beer now and again is proven to be good for our hearts, then who are we to argue?
