Drinkable Sunscreen is (Maybe) Going to be a Thing

While I'm sure all Cosmopolitan readers are savvy enough to always wear lots of sunscreen and never get burnt - ahem - there are a few people still out in the world who aren't very good at remembering to re-apply - or who shirk it altogether.

Well, if slapping yourself with lotion every few hours fills you with dread, good news. A sunscreen drink could be coming.

Cooked up by dermatologist Bobby Awadalla, UVO is the answer to the worryingly wide-spread issue of patchy SPF application. In fact, a recent US study showed that only 14% of men and 30% of women regularly use the stuff - eek.

Bobby told The Guardian, "I would see patients every day [who] had long- and short-term effects of sun damage, and despite the consequences, they were hesitant to use sunscreen."

UVO claims to block the sun's rays from the inside, using a cocktail of vitamins and supplements, including Vitamins C and E.

Now, while a study of 15 people did show the product had some efficacy, that's a very very small group and a whole lot more testing is needed before we can think about putting this bad boy on the market.

Bobby's next steps are more, bigger trials and to send the product off to be peer-reviewed - all normal protocol for any new health inventions. We're waiting with bated breath for the results...
