This Genius Idea Makes Packing Lunch So Much Easier

By now, you know that Mason jars are helpful for everything from peeling garlic to making perfect eggs, but we came across another genius usage that's going to change the way you pack lunch. Whether you're putting together school lunches for the kids or bringing your own eats to work, separating different components of your meal is always tricky. Here's how to do it without your cabinets overflowing with Tupperware.

Crafting website Smart School House came up with a way to make DIY Lunchables using just a mason jar and some recycled containers. You can pack everything together in one compact unit and prevent sogginess from wet and dry ingredients touching. Why didn't we think of that?

The mason jar paired with an empty applesauce container or fruit cup can hold classic combinations like deli meat, cheese and crackers, or even less common portable snacks like milk and cereal. Our favorite idea is combining beans, rice and cheese in the glass section, which can be safely microwaved, with salsa to pour over top for some stellar chip dip.

The video shows a "Mason-able" made with a short, wide-mouth mason jar, though you can feel free to play with sizes as long as you can find other containers that fit in the screw-on lid. The lunch possibilities are endless!
