What to Delete From Your iPhone if You Want to Create More Space

Even those with the calmest of temperaments have their patients tested on the daily with the arrival of that little box of doom that reads 'Storage Almost Full' every time you want to carry out any kind of useful function on your iPhone.

You've got about four pictures left in your camera roll, have deleted all apps except Facebook and Google Maps, and you've quit your Spotify habit because there just ain't the space. So WHAT ARE YOU SUPPOSED TO DO?

Before you lose it completely, try following this checklist of stuff to delete. Oh yeah, and remember to breathe.

1. Check what's taking up the most storage

Instead of playing your own, irritating version of Guess Who, just take a look at which apps take up the most space by heading into Settings > General > Usage > Manage Storage and then use that info to work out which ones you really need. Sorry, it means Pokémon GO might have to do just that.

2. Get rid of data you didn't even realise eats up space

It's not just your photos that are the guilty party. Text messages, call logs, voicemails, your Safari browsing history (General > Safari > Clear history), and excess contacts all need to go too. Think of it as a spring clean.

3. Store photos in a different way

You'd rather not have to delete every photographic memory you ever made, so try downloading the Google Photos app (er, if you've got the space). This compresses, backs up, and allows you to store as many photos and videos as you like at no cost, so you can remove them from your Camera Roll without getting rid of them completely.

4. Turn off app notifications

Every little helps, and this will use less memory on your phone as well as preventing annoying pop-ups about what's happening in your SuDoku app every five minutes.

5. Get rid of email attachments

If you've got email on your phone, while the emails themselves won't take up much space, the attachments they come with will. You can get rid of your email attachments cache by deleting and reinstalling your email account in your phone.

6. Get hacking

No, we're not suggesting you hack somebody else's phone. It's worth trying some of the tricks of the trade out there, like the one that suggests you head to iTunes to try and rent a movie with a bigger file size than you have available storage. When the 'storage almost full' pop-up inevitably arrives, click settings on the notification and it magically gives you some storage back - repeat this a few times and you should make some decent space.

Still got hardly any storage? Give up. You've done all you can. Buy a new iPhone with more than 16GB of space and revel in your new life of peace, tranquility and phone storage in abundance.
