20 Romantic Stories About Love That Will Make You Feel All the Things

In times like these where everything feels so daunting and chaotic, nothing quite calms the mood like a good ole’ story of romance. Sure, you can always search through #CelebrityCoupleGoals posts and drown yourself in the depths of romance novels and movies, but sometimes you just need an IRL story of two average, everyday people finding each other.

Thankfully, these stories are only a click away. From one hopeless romantic to another, I gift you 20 feel-good romantic stories about people just like you and me.

1. Exhibit A: Sometimes real love is just as wholesome as seen in the movies.

This story of a woman’s parents featured on Humans of New York will literally make you sob. Reading about the true love and devotion this man had for his wife, even after her passing, is, like, too much for my heart.

2. *Florida Georgia Line Voice* If it's meant to be, it'll be.

3. Like any digital age romantic story, it all starts on TikTok.

The flirting between Josiah Miller and Natalie Otana started on TikTok. And even though they lived on the opposite sides of the country, Miller flew out to California to see Otana. Shortly afterward, they took a road trip together to see her family in Florida. And yup, they spent days traveling and getting to know each other. Before the road trip was even over, they became boyfriend and girlfriend.

4. And now for an earnest (but effing cute) airport love story...

Let's go back to the year 2018. The hashtag #PlaneBae was trending on Twitter after user @roseybeeme chronicled the journey of two people meeting on a plane and seemingly hitting it off. People joined in to the live tweets as she described their conversations and how much they seemed to be into each other. Follow the thread for yourself:

5. Petition to bring back love letters, please.

This couple featured in Humans of Bombay described the way they would write long love letters to each other while they were doing long distance. They're now together in person, and say it’s the everyday things like watching the sunset or sitting in nature that makes them most happy. Aww.

“We were both born and brought up in Sindh, which used to be a part of India back then. Even though we grew up in the same place, our paths never crossed. It was during partition that both our families left for Bombay -- hers by train, mine by boat. Those were terrifying days -- bodies and riots every, we didn’t have any money...forget that, we didn’t even have shoes on our feet! We slept on VT station for the first 3 days, until my father found a job and life returned to normalcy. All of us ‘refugees’ were hungry to start over, we worked our way up and slowly built a life for ourselves. In time, I shifted to Kuwait where there were many opportunities and she was studying to be a doctor in Bombay. One time I was visiting home, I was at the window and saw her in this lovely sari, standing at the bus stop. She looked so sweet and innocent, I used to see her everyday from my window...and then as fate would have it, I found out my sister was married to her uncle! After a lot of convincing, my sister ‘set up’ a meeting for us, we dated for 10 days and then I proposed! It was that simple -- now days, you don’t even know whether you’re dating! Then came the dreadful long distance -- I still remember, I used to set aside time and money to make a long distance phone call from my hotel to call her. In between, we wrote each other letters but they would reach after months, so our letters would be long...trying to cover everything we’ve missed! That was true romance to me -- being happy in just ‘knowing’ that the other was happy...even without you! Those were the days, and believe me we still talk about all these memories. One thing we love doing together is being in nature, so very often you will find us watching the sunset or the moon together and talking about life, and how amazing it has been. That’s the best part about this life -- reliving those special memories over and over with the same person and watching that sunset together, knowing that you’re creating more of those memories as you go along.”

6. Honestly, this one is giving me all the feels.

Let's just take a second to admire the love between former sex worker Rajiya Begum and Abbas Miah, a man with a disability who was formerly homeless. Begum was forced into sex work due to circumstance and Miah was the first person to offer her money without asking for anything in return, despite being impoverished himself.

Moved by his kindness, Begum promised to help him out and push his wheelchair anywhere he wanted to go. They both fell in love and married one another, vowing to always be there to ease the other’s pains. The couple has been married for four years now, as reported on in the Indian Express.

7. Everything starts with a kiss.

In this TikTok, user @bethanyciotola describes how she ended up falling for a male model she had to do a kissing photo shoot with. You can guess what happened next: The two quickly fell in love, got married, and had several children together. Sign me up, pls.

8. Sorry for the cliché, but it's so true that love conquers anything.

As the CEO and Founder of Love & Noor, a digital media company aimed at creating content for marginalized communities, Nabela Noor already had a large following because of her work. But people flocked to her even more once they learned of the story of she and her husband, Seth. Being a Bangladeshi Muslim and Seth being an American, Noor shared that her parents first disapproved of their marriage. But after a year of disagreements and arguments, they finally gave in. They’ve been married ever since.

This picture perfectly describes how we felt on this exact day 6 years ago, when my parents finally agreed to meet Seth on Thanksgiving day. After a YEAR of fighting for their approval and blessing - on this day, six years ago they gave us just that. ?✨⁣ ⁣ I feel like we are reliving that day in this photo... @itssethmar looking nervous & me getting ready to be whisked away by the man of my dreams. ?⁣ ⁣ This is why Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday and will forever hold the most special place in my heart. It symbolizes family and the power of love, which won on the Thanksgiving of 2013. ⁣ ⁣ As Seth and I prepare to host Thanksgiving in our own home today, I pray that your family and loved ones surround you with love and support and beautiful new memories. I pray you are embraced for who you are and what you are fighting for. And if there is tension this year or you can’t fully live out your truth, I pray that changes soon. ⁣ ⁣ In so many ways we have become family over the years and if you don’t hear this from someone you love today, let Seth and I tell you: We are proud of you. We are rooting for you. We believe in you. We love you. ⁣ ⁣ Thankful for each and every one of you this Thanksgiving. Sending our Love and Noor,⁣ ⁣ Nabela & Seth

9. Just a little glimmer of hope: Anyone can find true love at any age.

That’s what happened with TikTok user @pattiaveryschmidt when she married her college sweetheart. They married at 19 and had three baby boys together. After her third child, she had several miscarriages and was told she wouldn’t be able to conceive again. But, despite everything, she ended up having a baby girl that made her family of five into a family of six. They just celebrated their 27th anniversary.

10. Every good love story starts with a lil bit of encouragement from friends.

TikTok user @nursehadley describes how she met her husband through the encouragement of some residents in a nursing home she formerly worked for. Her then-crush was a physical therapist in the home, and though she didn’t know if he was available, she pursued him. They ended up with a mutual attraction and started dating. Eventually, they got married and had a kid together.

11. Some hope for all of you still with your high school sweethearts.

Taking part in the TikTok trend where couples jump into different shoes to talk about the transitions in their lives, @jfam.ily tells the story of how they went from high school crushes to married, with baby number three on the way. Side note: The video also quickly blew up because it featured football linebacker Tre’Von Johnson??

12. A reason to always go on that blind date.

It’s not often that blind dates end up connecting you with the love of your life. But then again, nothing’s really traditional about the way TikTok user @kimberlyj_king met her husband. Get this: She was chosen out of a crowd of 20,000 people at a concert to go on a date with her now-husband. They found out that, somehow, they were studying at the same college, had birthdays just a day apart, and her last name was Jester while his was King. They eventually traveled the world, adopted two dogs, and got married.

13. Who knew you could find romance through telling a supes corny joke?

It worked for Twitter user @Bloy who went viral after Tweeting the following:

14. A love story that should probably definitely be turned into a movie.

In this Humans of New York post, a man tells the story of how a woman, who saved him from drowning, ended up saving him in more ways than that. They were married, had four children, and spent 64 years together before she passed. Again, literally sobbing.

“I was just a kid from a little cow town in Montana, but I was convinced I knew everything. So I got into a little tangle with my dad and ended up joining the Air Force. They stationed me out in Spokane, Washington. And not long after I arrived, me and a couple of buddies decided to take a day trip out to Liberty Lake. It was a real neat little lake. Fifteen feet deep and so clear that you could see straight to the bottom. We started playing a little football on the beach, but then we noticed three girls out on a floating dock. So we decided to swim out there. The water was really cold. And about halfway to the dock, I charley horsed in both my legs and started to sink. I thought for sure I was going to drown. When I woke up, I was laying on the dock, and one of those girls was staring down at me. Apparently she’d seen me go under, jumped in her brother’s boat, and pulled me out by the hair. That girl was named Dolores. She saved my life in August of 1952, and she saved me again and again for the next 64 years. We raised four children together. Not only was she my wife, but she was also my mentor. I was just a kid from Montana. She turned me into a good man. Her personality, her love-- I’m talking deep love-- for me and the children, changed me one inch at a time. And she never lost that heart for rescuing people. She worked with youth. She worked in street ministries. Whenever somebody was in a little bit of trouble, Dolores would jump right in. I know she sounds a bit like Wonder Woman—but she was. We were inseparable. People called us ‘joined at the hip.’ Two years ago she passed away. And I’ll tell you the only reason I’m still living—because I know, that one day, I’m going to wake up in heaven, and see Dolores looking down at me one more time.” #quarantinestories

15. There are few things in this world better than being supported by Your Person.

TikTok user @nicolealiciamd took part in the jumping shoe challenge with her husband too. This time, to show her TikTok users how, after just meeting at the gym, her eventual husband became a great support system to her as she went through medical school and residency. She made the post as a shout-out for her husband and the post eventually went viral.

Robinson shared the photo as a testament to her parents’ love and a reminder to her followers that “love always endures.” Literally stunning.

“I never dreamed of my wedding... only dreamed of a beautiful marriage.” In this wonderful creative industry that I worked in, I focus so much on providing couple hours with a day of beautiful photography. To be honest, rarely do I stop to think about the day, weeks, months or years that follow a wedding day. So today I share with you what those years after can look like when true love exists. These are my parents: married for 47 years, they have triumphed over cancer...twice. Have raised two successful daughters. They have been poor together and rich together. They have fed, sheltered, and advised countless lost souls. They love with out expectation and give freely, whatever it is they have to offer. I am SO proud to call them Mom and Dad. They are the epitome of where I strive to be in my own marriage and a constant reminder that a wedding is only a day, but a marriage is forever. If you are one of the millions in love, or maybe one of the millions of broken-hearted that need a visual reminder that love always endures, I would love for you to share this as a way of letting my mom and dad know, they are an inspiration to anyone who wants, believes, or is in love. . . . . . #imagesbyamberr #raleigh #wedding #photographer #raleighwedding #raleighphotographer #raleighweddingphotographer #anniversary #marriagegoals #marriage #blacklove #growoldtogether #growoldwithme #aarpphoto #silverfox #risingtidesociety #love #truelove #wokeweddingpros #defytheodds #southernnoirweddings #blackweddingphotographers #blackweddingphotographer #blackbride1998 #soulsreconnected #happilyeverafter #aftertheaisle #wedclique #bustld #whimsicallywed

17. And whomst says you can't find love in the midst of a global pandemic?

NYC Photographer Jeremy Cohen did the most when he saw a woman — later deemed “Quarantine Cutie” by Twitter — creating a TikTok on her rooftop a few buildings away. He wrote his number down and taped it to his drone, then flew it over to her rooftop. She eventually texted back and they had a socially distanced date via FaceTime. Then, to take the relationship to the next level, Cohen got into an inflatable bubble and visited his Quarantine Cutie. While it’s unclear exactly if Cohen and his Cutie are dating, they did Tweet about meeting up and doing handstands together, which is my version of romantic TBH.

18. Okay, so ~romance~ clearly starts with a dance.

This couple literally blew up the internet when a picture of them dancing went viral. A little while after, Humans of Bombay featured their story. The man in the photo said he used to hate to dance, but after meeting his wife through dance, he loved it.

“I was always a shy kid who hated dancing. Once at a wedding, a friend’s aunt dragged me to dance. I couldn’t coordinate my feet and hoped no one would notice. I was so embarrassed, I decided to enrol in dance classes in college! The classes were great, but I’d often look at all the couples enjoying themselves and wished I had a real partner...not a random dance partner! As fate would have it, I met my wife at a mutual friend’s party after college–who would have thought she loved dancing too! We spoke a lot, went on dinners and started getting to know each other. And a few months later, we were at a friend’s party when the song ‘Lady in Red’ started playing. That’s when we danced together for the first time, and all I could think about was how much I’d fallen for her! She’d often tell me that I made her feel special and safe when I danced with her, and she loved how I’d always open the door for her! So a few months later, we were at a restaurant when I asked her, ‘Will you marry me?’ She said yes, and we went home and woke our parents up immediately to get their blessings. We got married 3 months later. After marriage, we even found a shared love for travelling. We’d love to go on 10 hour drives together, without hotel bookings, not knowing where we’d land up. And of course, we’re still ‘that dancing couple’ everywhere we go. We don’t even care if we’re the only ones on the dance floor and we’re making a fool of ourselves– we love it! We also work out together, and every Sunday, we have a family lunch and then play board games. She’s very competitive when it comes to Ludo and Acquire. Whenever I win she’ll say, ‘You’re just too smart. It’s not fair.’ And then I’ll hug her and she scrunches her face up! But like every couple, we fight too. Usually, I stay quiet when she’s mad. And she loves that softness about me, so we end up laughing after any argument. Then she’ll say, ‘You are the best’, and that's the only time I raise my voice at her and say, ‘No, you are the best!’ She’s the best!”

19. A reminder that love isn't always easy, but it is worth it.

Derrick Young Jr. and Johnathan Allen had to keep their love secret because of Allen’s strong religious background. But after five years of loving each other on the DL, the world learned about them when their proposal video went viral. They felt liberated after the world found out, since they could start loving each other loudly.

20. And lastly, an IRL version of The Notebook.

This couple went viral on Humans of New York for being a real-life version of The Notebook. After celebrating their 50th anniversary, the man in the photo noticed his wife was forgetting things. She later was diagnosed with dementia, just as her father was. Today, he remains physically close by her side, cuddling with her, and comforting her in times of distress. Even when she’s not able to speak coherently, he feels comforted by her being there. (Aaaand cue the tears).

(1/3) “I was nineteen. She was sixteen. Our dates were normally on Sunday. We didn’t do much of anything. We were conservative. I was a farmer. We weren’t those swinging type people. But every date was a little more cuddly. Then she took me to her senior prom. It was just ten miles from here—in Richmond. I was the only one there without a tuxedo. All those city folks didn’t know what to make of me. I can’t tell you when we fell in love. I can’t even tell you when I asked her to marry me. It was just natural. I think we were just sitting in the car and I gave her the ring. I don't have many big moments to share. We were simple people. They were all happy days.”
