There's nothing better than having a psychological explanation for being the weird/annoying/ridiculous person you are - that's why we're all so deeply obsessed with star signs, right? Well now, it turns out there are also lover personality types, which can explain why we act the way we do in sexual and romantic relationships - and how to improve them, too.

These 12 lover types have been identified by Dr Britney Blair, the psychologist behind a new sexual wellness app called Lover. With her team, Britney has developed a tool on the app that helps people identify which lover type they fall into - and give them personalised recommendations and tips.

What you're like: Reserved, patient and mysterious, you’re a measured lover bubbling underneath.

What you need: To feel connected, supported, and comfortable around a partner is a prerequisite for enjoyable sex. Some might say you’re a picky lover, but for those that know you, the sexual tease and build-up is all part of creating an intense sexual experience.

Your perfect lover: When it comes time to exploring new territory in the bedroom, you’re very curious…and slow to indulge. You’ll only get into bed with someone who is willing to take your needs and desires into account. And for this reason, you’ll typically end up with amazing and kind lovers that know how to satisfy your body and brain.

Your perfect lover: You appreciate that sex is about being present for each other. But this isn’t just about the physical side, you also want to feel connected to your partner. As such, date nights, mutual devotion and commitment are all necessary for you to feel appreciated.

The Philosopher

What you're like: Conscious and open to your own desires, you’re no stranger to erotic materials and fantasy. One of your greatest sexual strengths is your ability to harness the power of your imagination to explore sexual desire and push boundaries.

What you need: Your preference, of course, would be with a partner.
