This Rare Video of a Baby Dolphin Being Born is Basically the Most Joyful Thing Ever

In case you needed a small reminder that the world is a beautiful and magical place where beautiful and magical things happen, here's a rare video of a baby dolphin being born at the Shedd Aquarium in Chicago, Illinois.

Captured by CNN, the video shows a very pregnant Pacific white-sided dolphin as she endures three hours of labor after one year of pregnancy. After swimming and wiggling around for a bit, a tiny tail finally pops out, and then eventually, an entire little baby dolphin. It is unbelievably heartwarming, and easily one of the sweetest birth videos of all time — and according to the video, a birth of this species has never been witnessed in the wild.

The pair will unavailable for public viewing for the next few months in order to allow them some privacy and time to bond. Given how proud the mama dolphin looked when they both surfaced for the baby's first breath of air, it's safe to say their bonding time will be very well spent.
