Royal Jeweler Opens Up About the Very Secretive Process of Making Meghan Markle's Ring

The jewelers who made Meghan Markle's engagement ring are understandably a little freaked out about the royal engagement fever — and especially the attention their ring is getting.

Stephen Connelly, director of Cleave and Company, the royal jeweler who made Meghan Markle's engagement ring, told The Associated Press the intense media attention has been "a bit of a shock."

The royal jewelers also spilled the beans on how hard it was to not, er, spill the beans, about the ring.

David Thomas, a former Crown Jeweler who looked after the royal family's jewels and now works with Cleave and Company, said working on the ring was the "biggest and hardest secret" he's had to keep in his life. Not only that, the jewelers are currently keeping their location under wraps because they don't want to be bombarded by hordes of women and men who want the exact same ring. (Which, if you've read this far, you realize you're never, ever getting.)

He added that he's been besieged by requests to find out more about the ring — specifically, how much it cost.

"Jewelers are like doctors: we never discuss our patients!" Thomas said, coyly.

Question: Is it possible to be in love with a sassy royal jeweler whom you've never met? Because I most definitely am.

Connelly added that the ring — which was designed by Prince Harry himself, and features a yellow gold diamond from Botswana surrounded by smaller diamonds that had belonged to Princess Diana — is truly one-of-a-kind.

"We're not going to be making replicas of it. If you want a ring, then we'll design you a different one," he said.

Well, if you can't have the real deal, you can always get a replica for $40. Hey, playing pretend princess isn't so bad, and you don't have to go broke doing it!
