There's a Scary Reason You Shouldn't Wear Underwear to Bed

Gynaecologist Dr Alyssa Dweck - who wrote V for Vagina, so she's legit - recently chatted to Shape about why we probably shouldn't sleep in our knickers. Turns out there's a pretty scary reason we should consider dropping our pants.

"If [the area] is constantly covered—especially by a fabric that's not moisture-wicking or absorbent—moisture collects," Dr Dweck explained. "That's a perfect breeding ground for bacteria or yeast."

Hear that? Keeping your vag covered at all times means more bacteria. Meaning more yeast infections and other scary stuff. The horror. Oh, the horror. Never again will we wear tight Calvin Klein boxers to bed so we can pretend we're Kendall Jenner.

But don't panic just yet, pyjama-lovers. While Dr Dweck does recommend going entirely commando at night to let your bits breathe a bit, she does offer a solution to anyone who isn't comfortable entirely starkers.

"If there's ever a time to break out the granny panties, this would be the time," she says, suggesting a loose-fitting cotton pair of underwear ore some boxers (from the men's section. They're way cheaper than pjs). Think loose and airy. Give your vagina some space.
