Flowers in your hair? Yawn, done. Your hair as a vase for flowers? Now we are talking! Hong Kong-based blogger Taylor R Tweeted a series of pictures of herself in this look after Beyoncé and Rihanna’s famous floral head-gear looks emerged. Since then, (brave) women from all over the world are taking to their social media accounts to spark off the trend—in towering hair, with flowers popping on top. Tried it yet?
When Emma Watson debuted bangs that ended halfway on her forehead, the internet sat up and took notice. In fact, Pinterest has reported that searches for ‘baby bangs’ have gone by 51 percent in 2019. Cara Delevingne, Kaia Jordan Gerber, Bella Hadid...all have flirted with this look, and so have tonnes of Instagrammers! The look isn’t for the commitment phobe, though: micro fringes need high maintenance and can’t be pinned to the side when you get sick of them. So once you go snip-snap, there’s no looking back.
Remember the glitter make-up trend from a few seasons ago? Now meet it’s bigger, badder, bolder sister. It all began at Giambattista Valli’s Fall 2018, and then Spring 2019 show, where models turned up in different glitter-covered avatars, on the face and hair. What was earlier limited to lids and lips is now a full-blown glitter bomb, with the entire face smeared in sparkles. Social media users took cue, too, and up came a barrage of shiny, sparkly people on IG.
At first, beauty influencers like Huda Kattan were just Photoshopping these eyebrows—created by blogger Skyeditz—on to their own photographs. But thanks to the attention the trend garnered, women were soon actually shaping their eyebrows to resemble a fish tail. Which meant splitting the eyebrows at the arch, with the upper section flipped upwards, and the lower one angled in the opposite direction. The Internet was on the fence about this new shape, but that didn’t stop things from going viral.
Regular nail art is so 2018. Right now, it’s all about colourful, clear acrylic nails that are slightly transparent, letting the natural nail underneath show, and ending with see-through tips. Wear them as long talons, or short ballerina/coffin nails.
While most were busy posing subtle and neutral, a crop of beauty experimenters were flooding our feeds with these glow-in-the-dark-and-even-in-the-day looks. What’s more, even the SS19 runways offered a hearty dose of this make-up. The result: once the Jenners and the Hadids got on board, they gave this ‘out there’ trend viral wings—think, blazing yellow lids, glowing green lips, neon blue mouths et al.
What do Kim Kardashian West and Blac Chyna have in common? No, not Rob Kardashian (that feud’s getting messier by the day), it’s their shared love for ‘glass hair’. That’s a blunt bob, glossed to perfection, and looking so polished and smooth, it actually looks like a reflective surface! Hailey Baldwin Bieber, Jourdan Dunn, Jenna Dewan, Olivia Culpo, and Lucy Hale are some other A-listers responsible for making this trend mega.
Paint lacquers for your teeth? Yup, that’s really a thing. US-based cosmetics company, Chrom has introduced tooth polishes, which is mainly make-up for your pearly whites, in a rainbow of colours from candy-floss pinks and mint greens, to metallic silvers and golds. There are different textures on offer, too—matte, glitter, and gloss. They are said to work just like nail paints, letting you eat and drink like normal, and can be removed with regular toothpaste.
