11 Ways to Take Your Ponytail to the Next Level
With a little boost of volume here or a fun twist there, these tricks perfect your ponytail.
If you're sick of having your ponytail look droopy, all you need to do is change your angle from the start. "Tilt your head back while doing a ponytail," says celebrity hairstylist Marcus Francis. "This trick makes the nape much tighter."
To narrow the appearance of your face, put your ponytail way up high and fluff it up. This elongates your face, drawing the eye to your cheekbones and creating the illusion of a slimmer outline.
If you've got relatively short hair that you wish could be twice as long without the wait (or the hair extensions), separate your hair into two sections, one on top and the other underneath. Put the top section in one ponytail, then do the bottom, securing each with a hair tie. Gently brush the two together to give the appearance of instantly longer hair.
This year's it-ponytail is the mussed-up version by Jet Atkin. A bit of teasing plus a little dry shampoo, and voila — you've got an effortlessly cool style.
Another easy idea for short hair: accenting your style with a small knot. Gather your hair into a ponytail, leaving a small piece from the left side and a small piece of the right side of your head out, then tie those at the base and secure them with bobby pins. Sophisticated and chic!

If you've got long or thick hair and find your ponytail drooping, stick two bobby pins under the base by the hair tie, pointing them upward. In a snap, your style looks taller and more voluminous.
For a seamless look, wrap a thin section of hair around the base of your ponytail to conceal the elastic.
