Do it at home: If you have long hair there's nothing easier than a high ponytail, plaited with a loose finish. If you're lacking in length cheat with a clip-in pony piece and intertwine your own hair into the plait. Tug to expand the plait for volume.

Take to your hairdresser: Side-swept bombshell curls are a red carpet classic but do a Cara and modernise them with a slick texture contrasting the volume on the opposite side. While you could DIY this at home using tongs such as the Ghd Curve, going to a stylist would ensure your curls have a glossy finish that stay bouncy as long as you do.

Do it at home: This whimsical hairstyle looks complicated but is easy to do yourself. Take double plaits (of the old school kind – weaving in string a la Emily is optional!) and roll them together at the nape of the neck. Secure with pins.

Take to your hairdresser: You can't beat a classic beehive for a glam party look. Rochelle's is 60s perfection but while backcombing is easy to do yourself, getting the perfect finish to conceal this padding, isn't. Any good hairstylist will have the technique down.

Take to your hairdresser: This mishmash of braids requires skill to get it looking chic. Ask your hairstylist or a friend to keep the French plaits loose so your hair has some face-flattering body at the front and crown.

Do it at home: If you can braid, this is easily DIY and what's more it's a case of the messier the better. Create a tight French plait at the side of your hair beneath a low-slung parting and take it all the way to the ends. On the opposite side create body with volumising products and light waves styled with a wand.

Take to your hairdresser: This vintage up-do would be stunning for a black tie bash. Print this picture of Jessica to show your hairdresser and ask them to recreate her loose chignon with a low side parting, in keeping with the 2014 trends.

Do it at home: A big ballerina is a stunning party style – and so simple to DIY. To get plenty of volume in fine hair backcomb your ponytail before you twist it into the bun. A messy finish is the key to this looking cool.

Take to your hairdresser: Even if you're a confident braider this intricate pairing of plaits can be hard to do on yourself. Ask an expert for a tight inside-out French braid in the centre back of your hair, semi-concealed with a looser one on top.

Do it at home: This year's wet-look hair trend is stunning. Make it your party trick by blow-drying lots of mousse into your roots, slicking the hair back as you do and finishing with some putty at the top. Leave the lengths more matte for contrasting texture.

Take to your hairdresser: The handsome hair trend can still look super-glamorous, as Naomi demonstrates. For a punky yet polished ponytail like this ask your stylist for a low parting against a side-swept quiff and sleek ponytail with swishy waves at the very ends.

Do it at home: Short hair can still be dressed up for a party. Take a leaf out of JLaw's book and backcomb your hair for some retro volume and pin it at the nape of your neck. Easy!

Do it at home: For a bohemian look that you can recreate yourself copy Behati's double braided 'do. The skinny plaits at the top are super simple – just select strands from your parting half way between your hairline and crown – and loop them into your side fishtail plait. This part can be harder to do so follow a tutorial or recruit a friend for help.

Take to your hairdresser: Lupita has proved that a teeny weeny afro can be very versatile. Jazz your natural hair up for a party by asking your stylist to mould it into a mini mohawk or rockabilly roll.

Do it at home: This nonchalant up-do is achingly cool. Create two small French plaits at the roots and tail them into normal plaits which you can then twist into an undone bun at the nape of the neck. Leave strands out like Olivia for extra effortless points.
