Botox, fillers, and face lifts will be around forever. However, they certainly aren't the sole route to flawless, glowing skin!

Just as you work out the rest of your body for a toned, slim figure, facial exercises rely on the belief that working your facial muscles can yield similar, beneficial results. Training your facial muscles to gain complete muscle control can help minimise signs of premature ageing, along with stimulating blood flow and draining stagnant lymphatic fluid that tends to hold stress and tension on your face.

Face Yoga expert and founder of House of Beauty, Vibhuti Arora shows you how to exercise your way to firmer, radiant skin.

The Lioness Face Exercise

The Lioness Face exercise works to improve facial sagging and wrinkles around your nose, eyes, and mouth. It also provides immediate oxygenation to the face for an instant glow! Incorporating a combination of facial stress relief and breath coordination, this exercise helps in smoothening and brightening, skin texture enhancement, and tension release from your facial muscles.

To begin, take a deep breath by joining your fists together to create more pressure. As you release your breath with the pressure, open your mouth and eyes (wide), and stretch your tongue out. Ensure that you constrict (hold tightly) every facial muscle on your face and neck for five seconds while you breathe in. As you exhale and release, open your mouth and eyes, and stretch your tongue out.

Face Muscle Relaxer

Designed to combat the process of accelerated ageing, this particular exercise helps smoothen fine lines, lifts the skin around your eyes, tones your cheeks, and tightens your neck. It also poses to be a great muscle and mind relaxing technique. To begin, place both your palms on your temples and push the palms up and back to lift the sides of your face. Hold this position for 5 seconds and repeat two more times. As you stretch, you should feel a slight burn on the corners of your mouth and cheek—the kind of burn you experience during an intense workout. Next, inhale, and while exhaling, lift your eyebrows and open your eyes as wide as possible, without creating creases on your forehead. Repeat this process with each breath.

Cheek Whipping

The cheek whipping exercise is ideal for lifting your cheekbones, jowls, and to give way to a defined jawline. Take the index and middle finger of your right hand and start to lift your facial muscle from the corner of your lip, all the way to the ear lobe—first to the count of 20, and then to the count of 10. Now, count till 10 while you begin to lift from the apples of your cheeks, all the way to the top of your ear. Perform this exercise for 30 seconds on each side. Since this is an intense face cardio exercise, it should be performed not more than 3 times a week.
