Benny Blanco’s toes and Kate Middleton’s unkempt feet have the internet talking about foot hygiene

So here's how you can keep your feet clean, because if the internet is going to zoom in on your toes, they might as well look good.

If the internet has taught us anything this week, it’s that absolutely no body part is safe from public discourse. Not your hairline, not your outfit, and apparently not your feet either. The last example comes courtesy of music producer Benny Blanco, whose toes have been living rent-free on social media for the past few days after viewers spotted his dirty feet during the debut of his podcast. The clip spread quickly, sparking endless memes, hygiene debates, and a truly chaotic discourse about whether or not people should be putting their (dirty) bare feet on other people’s furniture.

Things only escalated further when Selena Gomez appeared on the show and casually kissed Blanco’s toes during the episode, sending the internet into a frenzy. Some fans found it cute, others were deeply concerned about...germs. Either way, the moment turned Blanco’s feet into a full pop culture talking point.

Meanwhile, across the Atlantic, Kate Middleton’s feet were having a moment of their own on the internet. During a recent visit to a Hindu temple in Leicester, the Princess of Wales removed her shoes to take part in the rituals, in keeping with temple customs. Photos of her walking barefoot quickly made the rounds online, and the internet did what it does best, zooming in on every tiny detail. Naturally, some people decided to call her feet “unkempt”.

Two different situations, one universal takeaway: people notice feet a lot more than we think. So if your toes are ever going to end up on camera, on a podcast, or even on your friend’s couch, needless to say, they should be clean. And if they're not, here’s what you can do to keep them looking (and smelling) their best.

Wash them like you mean it

This may sound obvious, but people do tend to miss the point. A quick shower rinse does not count as proper foot hygiene. Dermatologists often point out that feet collect sweat, bacteria, and dead skin throughout the day, especially if you wear closed shoes.

Use soap, scrub between the toes (yes, every single one!), and dry them properly afterwards. Damp toes are basically an open invitation for fungal infections, which is not the kind of viral moment anyone wants.

Exfoliation is not just for your face

Feet build up dead skin faster than almost any other part of the body. Walking, friction from shoes, dust, and dry air all contribute to rough heels and flaky patches.

A simple pumice stone or foot file once or twice a week can make a huge difference. You do not need a luxury spa routine. Just a few minutes in the shower to gently buff away buildup will keep things smooth and camera-ready.

Moisturise, especially at night

Dry heels are the biggest culprit behind feet that seem to be unkempt. A thick foot cream or even your basic moisturiser before bed works wonders. If you want to go the extra mile, wear cotton socks overnight so the moisturiser actually sinks in without ruining your bedsheets.

This is especially helpful if you spend a lot of time in heels, which, by the way, royals like Middleton endure for hours during public appearances. That kind of footwear can seriously dry out and strain the feet over time.

Don’t ignore your nails

Untrimmed toenails can make even clean feet look messy. Keep them short, file the edges, and give them a quick scrub when you shower. Nail polish may be optional; clean nails are not.

From celebrity podcasts to royal visits, the moral of the story is simple. The internet may not always agree on your outfit, your relationship or your dance moves. But if your feet are clean, at least that’s one less thing for the netizens to argue about.
