Ombré hair is evolving yet again, coming in hot this time with a more diffused look called color-melting. This technique softens sharp edges and erases that dreaded line of demarcation that can happen when you dip-dye your hair and use different colors.

"Melting is a technique that blends the highlights with the base color of the hair so you don't have any harsh lines," Matrix StyleLink stylist George Papanikolas told BuzzFeed. "The difference between this and regular highlights is that you use multiple shades to create the 'melted' effect."

The new technique also creates an optical illusion and tricks the eye, making you believe the flowing colors could have occurred naturally, whether they transition from brown to bleach blonde, or lavender to turquoise. Pretty cool, right?

Basically, give your colorist a call — it's time to get your mane melted.
