THIS is How Long It Took to Make These Absolutely Iconic Outfits Worn by These Bollywood Celebs

1. Priyanka Chopra - Met Gala 2018

She became the butt of memes with her trench-coat inspired look at the Met Gala last year, but she gave everyone a run for their money in a Ralph Lauren velvet gown in burgundy this year. The highlight of her look was a stunning jewelled hood that resembled a medieval knight, making for a truly unique and stunning rendition of the theme, Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination. 

On Instagram, Ralph Lauren shared a close-up look at Priyanka’s handcrafted hood from the Met and revealed that the custom-made piece embellished with Swarovski crystals and meticulous gold beadwork, took more than 250 hours to make.

 

2. Anushka Sharma - Wedding Look

Once Virat Kohli and Anushka Sharma made it official on their respective social media handles on 11th December last year, the Internet was flooded with photos and video snippets from the intimate wedding ceremony along with other functions, and one could easily say this is THE dream wedding everyone could possibly want. The outfits of the couple were designed by all time favourite designer of the bride, Sabyasachi. And to your surprise, it took 67 artists and 32 day to complete Anushka's wedding lehenga. Sabyasachi shared the details about their outfits on the official Instagram handle of his brand. Her one in a million look definitely inspired many brides-to-be for sure.

 

3. Sonam Kapoor - Sangeet Ceremony

Even though it's been more than a week since Sonam Kapoor and Anand Ahuja's wedding, we still can't get over the fever. #SorryNotSorry. The couple tied the knot in the usual 'Big Fat Punjabi Wedding' style, and our Insta feed was flooded with photos and videos with #SonamKiShaadi which helped calm our wedding #FOMO a bit. Not to mention the immense fashion inspo this bride served, especially in her mehendi/sangeet ceremony, in a custom Abu Jani Sandeep Khosla creation. 

The designer duo revealed that she had ordered for the attire over two years ago from them with proper instructions. They went on to say that it took multiple teams of artisans to make the perfectly beautiful golden top and lehenga which she wore two days before her wedding. Interestingly, the ivory lehenga is uniquely different and incorporates chikankari embroidery which was paired along with a golden top for the mehendi.

 

4. Deepika Padukone -Bajirao Mastani

Anju Modi took on the task of designing the costumes for Sanjay Leela Bhansali's period drama film Bajirao Mastani, and apparently, it took the filmmaker almost six months to select the right outfit for his Mastani. As per a source, "As the song has been shot in Aaina Mahal, Sanjay didn't want the outfit's colour to overpower the set. The costume required a lot of layering and options were made in various colours like pink, red and gold. Eventually, Sanjay chose dhaani (a shade of green) as he felt it suited the setting."

As a designer who has always turned to traditional Indian crafts for inspiration, for getting the look of Bajirao Mastani right, Modi undertook intensive research. She said, "I studied history, went into the interiors and visited museums to get a sense of what used to be there. I have always been following the heritage and the traditional craft of our country and designing for the film was another reason for me to go deeper. It gave me a chance to bring out elements from the Maharashtrian culture, be it Bajirao's dhotis or Kashibai's navvaris. That was a delight!"

 

5. Aishwarya Rai Bachchan - Jodhaa Akbar

This Ashutosh Gowarikar masterpiece starring Hrithik Roshan and the ethereal beauty Aishwarya Rai was lauded by all for its epic story and cinematic brilliance. However, it was Aishwarya, and her finely done costumes that lent the real feel to her character of a Rajput princess and wowed one and all. About 400 kg of gold and semi-precious stone were moulded to recreate Jodha’s jewelry and almost 200 craftsmen worked for 600 days to recreate the Mughal ornaments which Aishwarya wore in the film. All that sweat and toil had to result in a stunning culmination like this!
