The unmissable fashion moments of FDCI X Lakme Fashion Week

With star-studded runways and high-octane presentations, FDCI X Lakme Fashion Week 2022 was all about sheer elegance and futuristic styles. From Shantanu and Nikhil’s crystal-studded lehengas to Bloni’s innovative blend of fashion and technology, the atmosphere was a chic frenzy that left us sated. We spotted vibrant and sorbet hues, deconstructed silhouettes and a whole lot of monochromatic outfits.

However, just in case you missed it, we’ve rounded up some of the most unmissable moments that took place over the week. Take a look and take it all in!

Eka puts on a skit

On day 2 (the sustainable fashion day) of FDCI X LFW, Rina Singh’s Eka presented a “Lived In” collection that reflected her vision of wearable sustainable fashion. Her presentation reminded us of a fairytale-tea party set in a parallel universe. With free-flowing silhouettes, sorbet hues and chunky platforms, this collection is as wearable as its presentation was whimsical.

Bloni’s theatrical runway presentation

With trapeze artists and aerial dancers, Bloni’s runway presentation was a theatrical delight. Hot on the heels of its Paris Fashion Week debut, Akshat Bansal (creative director of Bloni) presented his new collection that skilfully blended futuristic designs with technology. We’re talking heat-sensitive and colour-changing outfits with boxy silhouettes, strategic cutouts and leather-detailed dresses.

Satya Paul’s intergalactic whimsy

Satya Paul put on a show that left audiences stunned. Models sashayed down the runway on bicycles, skateboards and even hand-drawn carts performing little acts like the ballet or simply dribbling a ball that was painted to look like Earth. The collection entitled “A Stranger Thinks” depicted intergalactic prints on outfits with free-flowing fits. It was the colours of the sky, space and cosmos that inspired this collection.

Gaurang Shah’s crimson fever

Brilliantly blending indigenous textiles and one-of-a-kind weaves with a myriad of textures in every shade of red you can think of, Guarang Shah’s collection of saris is for the traditional yet minimalistic bride.

Shahab Durazi’s return to the runway

After a 12-year hiatus from the runway, Shahab Durazi made a comeback that earned him a spot on the fashion wall of fame. His collection ‘A Retrospective’ comprised of monochromatic outfits with clean lines and classic silhouettes. Durazi set out to transcend seasons, gender and fashion genres and just celebrate fashion without the chaos of trends fluttering around. 

Gaurav Gupta’s futuristic silhouettes

Gaurav Gupta transported the audience to a post-apocalyptic universe with his ethereal collection of outfits in a metallic palette with futuristic designs. We’re taking head gears, full-face covering masks, dresses adorned with crystals and other dramatic silhouettes that aim to give the audience an immersive out-worldly experience. 

Rajesh Pratap Singh’s grand finale

Set against the backdrop of live opera singers, Rajesh Pratap Singh gave a ‘fitting’ end to FDCI X Lakme Fashion Week. From Mrunal Thakur’s beautiful narration of the 19th century Lakmé Opera to the monochromatic outfits with a few quirky twists that sashayed down the runway (think chunky boots with ghungroos), Rajesh Pratap Singh’s collection aimed at redefining timeless silhouettes with a futuristic touch.
