Clear your calendar: these are the movies and shows we’re watching next

If your watchlist is already overflowing, it’s about to get worse. From highly anticipated film adaptations and returning fan-favourite shows to messy romances, bloody power struggles and plenty of BookTok bait, these are the upcoming movies and TV shows worth keeping on your radar. Consider your next few months of binge-watching sorted.

Mirzapur: The Movie 
September 4, in theatres 

The highly anticipated movie of the Prime Video series is set to hit box office. The ensemble cast will return to the big screen, including actors Pankaj Tripathi, Ali Fazal, Rasika Dugal, Shweta Tripathi, and more. Directed by Gurmmeet Singh, the battle for Mirzapur’s throne will continue. Expect fights, bloodshed, and lots of drama.

Verity 
October 2, in theatres 

WDYM, another one of American author Colleen Hoover’s books is getting a theatrical release? *acts shocked* Based on the 2018 BookTok sensation, this adaptation stars Anne Hathaway and Dakota Johnson, among others. The story follows a struggling writer, Lowen Ashleigh (Johnson), who is invited to finish author Verity Crawford’s (Hathaway) series of novels, and a slew of secrets unveil.

Dark Matter Season 2 
August 28, Apple TV+ 

Based on American author Blake Crouch’s bestselling book by the same name, the second season will take the story of physicist and professor Jason Dessen (Joel Edgerton) forward. The ten-episode season will come out with one episode every Friday through October 30, which means we’re staying in on Fridays starting August 28.

Ted Lasso Season 4
August 5, Apple TV+

Believe in the power of the moustache because Ted Lasso is back with another season. This time Lasso (Jason Sudeikis) will make a return to Richmond to coach a second-division women’s soccer team. The ensemble will be joined by new cast members including Tanya Reynolds, Jude Mack, and Faye Marsay.

One Night Only 
August 14, in theatres 

When singles Allie (Monica Barbaro) and Owen (Callum Turner, aka Mr Dua Lipa) meet in New York City on the one night of the year when single people are allowed to have sex, a series of events keeps them from doing just that. Directed by Friends with Benefits’ Will Gluck, the movie will also have appearances from Maya Hawke, Julia Fox, Este Haim, Ziwe, and King Princess. We’re—you guessed it—sat.

How to Rob a Bank 
September 4, in theatres 

As the name suggests, this David Leitch movie revolves around a group of bank robbers (not The 1975 song), their popularity (an occupational hazard), and an ambitious heist. The ensemble cast is led by Nicholas Hoult and joined by Zoë Kravitz, Anna Sawai, Rhenzy Feliz, Christian Slater, Pete Davidson, and John C Reilly.

Drishyam 3 
October 2, in theatres 

The Ajay Devgn-Tabu starrer adaptation of the Malayalam franchise has a third instalment lined up for fans. While the Malayalam version is about family drama, according to director Abhishek Pathak, the Hindi one is more of a family thriller. And, if you’ve seen the first two, you know the significance of the release date. Booking tickets as we speak. Not available yet? Don’t care!
