You have been working out diligently every day, have been putting in enough time too, your body feels sore yet the results aren’t showing. Worried? Well, there are certain common mistakes that you might be making. What you need to worry about more than the results are injuries, points out celebrity health coach Deanne Panday. “Working out without expert supervision, adapting the wrong posture or over doing it could lead to injuries,” she adds. Considering physiotherapy or access to doctors is not easy to come by, you need to be cautious.
Panday lists out common mistakes that you need to avoid.
Not Staying Hydrated
Though you have been working out indoors, you still need to maintain optimum level of hydration. “Summers have begun and you will sweat and get dehydrated easily. More so than before you need to ensure you are staying hydrated,” says Panday. She suggests you drink a lot of coconut water, unsweetened lemonade and refreshing drinks made of celery, mint and cucumber.
Blindly following celebrity workouts
We tend to follow workouts that celebrities or influencers shoot and share on their social media. Panday warns against this. She says, “These people are not experts. They just have a good body that they have achieved with expert guidance. Do not blindly follow them as you will end up injuring yourself.” Follow a certified expert online. Over doing workouts
This is a misconception that working out more would help you achieve your weight goals. Your body has a certain capacity, you should not overshoot that. Also, in summers intense workouts can tire you easily. “In Mumbai, where one tends to sweat a lot because of the humidity, an intense workout in summers is not recommended. Keep it moderate, don’t go overboard. Delhi, where the weather is drier, is better for workouts but again do not over do them. As long as you are moving around, staying active, it’s ok,” she adds.
Following a crash diet
This is the wrong time to restrict calories. “You need nutritious food, if you are working out,” says Panday. Also cutting down on calories will make you irritable and as it is it’s natural for you to be stressed out due to the current scenario. All this could affect your fitness regime. She recommends light, balanced meals rich in fibre and nutrients. “Eat more of salads, control your portion sizes and stay away from calorie-dense fried or sugary food,” she adds.
Drinking stored juices
Any vegetable or fruit juice that you make has to be consumed within an hour. “Do not store them as they can collect bacteria and upset your gut. Keep your body clean,” she advises.
