7 Things You Can Do to Get Glowing, Radiant Skin by Valentine's Day

Who doesn't want to look good on Valentine's Day! You have waited for the date night, you have picked the perfect dress and gift, you are excited about what surprise awaits you. It's understood that you want to put your best face forward. While makeup may come handy here, we all know that nothing can replace the natural glow of healthy and radiant skin. Since, Valentine's Day is still a week away, here's a fail-proof plan from Dr Ameesha Mahajan, skincare specialist and dermatologist, from RM Aesthetics, Amritsar.

1. Follow the basics religiously

It's important to stick to the basics, no matter what. Follow the basic morning and night time skincare routine. Your Morning routine should include a face wash, moisturiser and sunscreen. Keep in mind to re-apply your sunscreen throughout the day. For night, its best to double cleanse your skin, especially if you have makeup on. "Double cleanse comprises of using an oil based cleanser and then using a water based cleanser/facewash. It should be followed by an anti-oxidant and brightening serum like a vitamin C serum and sealed with a moisturiser," says Dr Ameesha.

2. Exfoliate

Once a week exfoliation is a good idea to get rid of the dead skin cells. "My favourite DIY is using a mixture of milk and oats as a scrub to gently exfoliate and also nourish the skin at the same time," adds Dr Ameesha.

3. Hydrate

While a moisturiser keeps the skin hydrated, it is important to drink at least 6-8 glasses of water everyday to hydrate our body from within. It also helps in removing excess toxins from body and helps in the overall health of your skin.

4. Include anti-oxidant rich foods in your diet

"As the stress of our day to day lives keeps ever increasing, we are seeing changes in our skin quality, dullness, wrinkles and even blemishes. Stress releases free radicals in our body which are scavenged by anti-oxidants, thus reducing the deleterious effects of stress. So taking foods rich in antioxidants like vitamin c rich foods, nuts, fruits and vegetables, improves our skin’s glow from within," says Dr Ameesha.

5. Don't forget your lips!

Dr Ameesha suggests you use a mild lip scrub or a DIY scrub made with a mix of brown sugar and honey, to gently exfoliate the dead skin. Use a lip balm with SPF two-three times a day to keep them nourished and protected.

6. Sleep

Sleep is rightly called the “beauty sleep” as there is nothing like the glow on a well-rested face. So make sure to get 6-8 hours of sleep.

7. Go Salt Free!

Go salt free the night before the V day! It will help reduce any water retention or puffiness on the face.

8. Indulge

"Valentine’s day is synonymous with pampering! Its a good time to indulge in an in-clinic skin treatment like skin polishings or glow peel to not only get a healthy glow, but to also repair and regenerate the skin," add Dr Ameesha.
