Over the years, the VMA red carpet has seen some extremely out-of-the-box fashion and beauty moments. Case in point, Lady Gaga’s meat dress at the 2010 VMAs. And this year was no different. While celebrity outfits get noticed the most, they really let their hair loose (literally sometimes!) in the beauty looks they create around it. This is the one red carpet where celebrities aren’t afraid to experiment with their looks and it always ends up being a night with gorgeous hair and make-up looks. 

From Taylor Swift’s cat eye to Doja Cat’s shimmering spider-themed make-up, take a look at our favourite beauty moments from the 2023 VMAs! 

Nicki Minaj  

Nicki Minaj doused herself in baby pink from head to toe and we aren’t surprised. Her look was a Minaj staple and so was the make-up that went along with it. From shimmering pink eyes (that perfectly matched her risque outfit) with a bold wing to the soft pink lips and, of course, the generous dose of blush. There is nothing minimalistic about this look and we love it! 

Taylor Swift 

While Taylor Swift created VMA history by bagging nine awards, we couldn’t stop looking at her perfect cat-eyed wing. She let it stand out by keeping the rest of her make-up soft and dewy. 

Rita Ora  

There is nothing like a gorgeous glimmering smokey-eyed look to elevate your outfit. And it looks like Rita Ora agrees with us, too! Her honey-blonde waves, matte nude lip, and bold eyes are the perfect beauty look to cop for your next soiree. 

Shakira 

What we love about Shakira’s look is its timelessness. Her subtle yet sultry make-up and long cascading mermaid waves have been her signature for as long as we can remember. And this easy-to-cop look would work on any day out as amazingly well as it did on the red carpet. Who said all beauty needs to be experimental?

Demi Lovato  

Demi Lovato made a case for sculpted make-up at the VMAs. While her very smokey eyes were obviously the standout, her matte foundation and peachy blush created a dimension, and we’re here for it. The look was sealed by her nude, glossy lips!

Billy Porter   

You can always trust Billy Porter to create beauty looks that are out of this world. For the VMAs he had a blonde lock of hair covering his face and embellished eyes. However, it was his iridescent mermaid-like lips that stole the show!

Doja Cat   

Pencil-thin eyebrows, spidey eyelashes (to match her dress, no doubt!) and rhinestones scattered around her eyes, Doja Cat truly seems to have mastered the art of standing apart from the crowd and turning heads.
