Maximalist eye makeup has officially entered its more-is-more era. Think gleaming chrome pigments, richly smoked-out lids, sharply defined creases, and graphic liner that refuses to stay inside the lines. The appeal of these looks is obvious: they’re dramatic, playful, and guaranteed to make even a simple outfit feel considerably more interesting. The tricky part is making an eye look that belongs on an editorial moodboard work IRL, without needing a professional makeup artist (or three hours of free time).
The good news? Maximalist makeup is less about perfect precision and more about knowing where to place colour, light and definition. A little shimmer in the right spot can completely change the shape of your eyes, while a carefully carved crease can make even the softest shadow look intentionally dramatic. And if graphic liner is your thing, the right tools can do much of the heavy lifting. Ahead, we've broken down three statement eye makeup looks along with the techniques, textures, and products you need to recreate them at home.
The chrome accent

Concentrate reflective, metallic powders in the inner corners of the eyes and midway across the eyelids. For contrast, pair them with a burnt orange or warm terracotta base shade. Our pro tip? Use only the tips of your fingers for application. For the hazy effect, think small dabs of pigment, not controlled placement.

The smokey cut crease

Prepping the lids with a primer will boost colour pay-off and limit fading. Using a fluffy brush and a mid-toned shadow, map out the curve just above your natural crease, before defining with a deeper shade. To diffuse the edges? Blend with a gentle hand in back-and-forth motions. Carve the crease with concealer and a dense brush for precision, then top with a shimmer.

The graphic liner

A dramatic liner takes the spotlight here, so keep shadow nude and matte. Use an angled brush with a creamy gel formula for flexibility and longevity. Kayanara’s hero stencil offers a range of wings; higher angles lift the eyes, while more horizontal lines elongate them. In case of mistakes, trace under your liner with concealer to sharpen the wing.
