Meghan Markle's Body Language in Her First Pic With Archie Paralleled Kate Middleton's With Prince George

It's no secret that Meghan Markle and Kate Middleton sometimes navigate royal life a little differently. When Kate gave birth to her first child, Prince George, she opted for a same-day public appearance outside a hospital in London. Meghan, on the other hand, chose to keep Archie's birth relatively private and only posed for photos when she was back in the privacy of her Windsor home. Even then, there was only one photographer to capture Meghan and Prince Harry's family picture as opposed to the thousands of people lining the streets hoping to catch a glimpse of Kate and Prince William.

While Meghan and Kate had pretty different experiences introducing their newborns to the world, their body language on those days is actually really similar. Here's what body-language expert Blanca Cobb has to say about their first appearances as new moms:

They Have That "Maternal Instinct"

It should come as no surprise that Meghan and Kate, who have always been total naturals when it comes to interacting with kids, have that "maternal instinct" everyone's always talking about.

In nearly all of their first photos with newborns, Meghan, Harry, William, and Kate looked at the baby and held them close to the chest, which Blanca considers to be a great sign. "When you have a new baby, you want to make sure that the baby's breathing, right?" She added, "It's just a parental instinct. Make sure baby's okay, baby's breathing, baby looks fine—is baby comfortable? Or how do I make the baby comfortable when the baby isn't?"

They Want Everyone to Feel Included

Unless you are an expert, you probably would never have noticed the direction the royal parents hold their kids. Thankfully, Blanca is here and noticed how Kate and Harry subconsciously kept their newborns' heads pointed toward Will and Meghan in every photo.

She explained, "Parents have a choice on how they're going to hold their baby...whoever's holding the baby made sure the head is near the other parent instead of giving them feet."

They Just Want to Feel Comfortable

Understandably, Kate and Meghan both gave what Blanca calls "polite, social smiles" when posing for their first portraits as a family, because they were probably so tired after carrying a baby for months and months, being in labor, and dealing with a (probably crying) newborn.

When Prince William held Prince George for a few moments, Kate intertwined her fingers and dropped her hands to her stomach. Blanca says people tend to reach out to touch those they love and want to be with, but Kate having her arms down and relaxed was probably "an issue of comfort and support." Plus, she was still looking at William, so she was still feeling connected to him and George.

While Kate and William switched off with holding their son, Harry held Archie the entire time. Blanca chalks that up to a comfort thing for Meghan and nothing else, so nobody panic or throw any judgment her way!

Ultimately, in the hours and days after giving birth for the first time, Kate and Meghan were only thinking about their comfort and their babies. As it should be!
