It Looks Like Meghan Markle Isn't a British Citizen Yet, Despite Being a Member of the Royal Family

Meghan Markle is reportedly not a British citizen yet, even though she's part of the British royal family.

It seems likely that she started the immigration process after getting engaged to Prince Harry in 2017.

A Kensington Palace spokesperson maybe sorta confirmed that Meghan is still waiting for citizenship, commenting, "the process takes several years."

Please prepare yourself for the biggest surprise I've had all day: It looks like Meghan Markle, Duchess of Sussex, wife to Prince Harry, and mother to the Queen of England's great-grandson, is not yet a British citizen.

You would think that with Meghan dedicating the last year and a half of her life to representing the United Kingdom that she would be an official member of it, but that doesn't seem to be the case! A friend of Meghan's told the Daily Mail, "Meghan is not yet a British citizen. It might seem extraordinary, given that she's been married to the Queen's grandson for 18 months, but she accepts that it's a slow process."

It seems likely that Meghan started her application to become a British citizen after she and Harry got engaged in 2017. At the time, Kensington Palace said that Meghan would be treated like anyone else during the immigration process, which could explain why it's taking so long. Plus, a Kensington Palace spokesperson kinda sorta confirmed the situation by telling the Daily Mail, "the process takes several years."

However, Meghan's immigration status doesn't seem to be affecting her life—she's still turning down invitations to hang out with the Queen, refuting insane tabloid rumours, and secretly hanging out with Hillary Clinton like your typical American actress turned British royal!
