Selena tweeted: “I am not sure how writing jokes about organ transplants for television shows has become a thing but sadly it has apparently." According to Variety, the show's on-screen characters were discussing jokes with Wayne Brady, the television executive and were conversing about topics that might be off-limits. The topics that were determined were autism, necrophilia and also included the singer's kidney transplant.

One of the fans wrote, "As an organ transplant patient, I can say it is no laughing matter. It is a long stressful experience that leaves both the transplanted and their family with tremendous stress." While the other shared, "Selena, maybe you won't read this, but I suffer when I see people playing with your transplant, I love you so much and I feel your pain, get closer to us, please."

She continued in her tweets, "My fans always have my back. LOVE YOU. If you are able to please sign up to be an organ donor.” Back in 2017, Selena revealed in a post on Instagram how she found out she had to get a kidney transplant for her overall health. " I found out I needed to get a kidney transplant due to my Lupus and was recovering. It was what I needed to do for my overall health. I honestly look forward to sharing with you, soon my journey through these past several months as I have always wanted to do with you."

Selena's friend Francia Raisa had donated her own kidney since they were a match.
